The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: ORANGE Gettin' PEACHed, Nation Goes BANANAS

Y’all need to stop pretending this is Germany 1932 and realize that this is actually Germany 1938, that’s what I’m saying. Sorry, I don’t mean to lay into Clovis here, I’m just venting bc I see a lot of people saying the same thing. One of Trump’s toadies getting away scott-free with lying to the House was not the one sacred norm that will sink our democracy if it gets violated.

Slightly different issues though, like yeah a dumb, servile population and terrible news media etc etc is nothing new. Scandals where people lie to government and get away with it are nothing new. What is more amazing to me, and it seems like is more recent, is the abject failure of elites to protect against threats to their OWN POWER. The CIA turned its surveillance apparatus on the very people trying to regulate and investigate their activities and they just made Brennan apologise for being a bad boy. That this did not result in both the executive and legislative branches raining hellfire down on the CIA is incredible to me. All the Dem fecklessness since Garland is in the same category. People explicitly try to dismantle the structures that give Dem legislators their power and their response is “But you promise not to do it again, right?”.

I’m not sure why it’s in this thread, but Bibi lost in the sense that he didn’t get the results he wanted. It’s not like the Center-Left have enough to form a coalition.

If the results end up similar to the exit polls, then the real winner is Liberman and he will get his so-called secular unity government. He basically outplayed Bibi every step of the way since the previous elections.

It won’t change much from the current situation in Israel. It might not make it worse.

What’s wrong with Ted Lieu?

He’s a bit flaky imo, will throw down rhetorically but isn’t always as precise as he needs to be when he’s throwing bombs

Ted Lieu is my rep. He’s been pretty solid, but he did vote for (I think co-sponsor) the bill to make it a criminal offense to advocate boycotting Israel.

Fair enough. He’s not my rep and I don’t know as much about him. Just that I’ve always liked his stances I’ve known about. If he’s the worst of the Dems I think we’d be in pretty good shape

You need to write a book. This has been true for years.

Question for the Constitutional scholars… somebody (Swalwell?) was on TV saying contempt of congress was meaningless because Barr would be in charge of (not) prosecuting that. But he kept saying ‘hit them in the pocketbook,’ as if that was something congress (Nadler?) could do without Barr having any say. Is that so? Could they fine C-Lew for lies or refusing to answer, and Dearborn and Porter $10,000 every day they don’t show up?

Good to see you posting Yuv.

Wow

Super predictable and the exact reason they shouldn’t do any more hearings like this. They’ve got enough for obstruction already.

Next they need to figure out how to weaponize what leverage they have.

I completely disagree. Yesterday was different. Your position is simply an excuse to do nothing.
