The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: ORANGE Gettin' PEACHed, Nation Goes BANANAS

Only Trump could make everyone forget about him calling the Senate Majority Leader Mitch O’Connell by mid morning.

They used to push this kind of analysis because they were fucking right. There was lots of low hanging fruit back then. With the exception of a few ancient relics in deep blue states (lol at the rules around real estate on the coasts for instance) they harvested all the low hanging fruit decades ago. Now that everything a sane conservative from the 70’s could have wanted has already been done they’ve been working on genuinely stupid shit for at least 25 years… and a lot of that stupid shit is doing real harm to everyone.

Public opinion was already turning when I graduated from high school among my peers. The 2008 crisis hadn’t even happened yet, and neither had the recovery where we all took out massive student loans (basically taxes on young people where they forced us to pay for what should have been a public good) and then found out that the price we’d been charged effectively made the decision to go to college a negative one in the aggregate. The level of bitterness among millenials is pretty crazy now, and we’re mostly in our late 20’s early 30’s and furious.

Now this brings us to why people like Bernie Sanders are so goddamn dangerous. Bernie lived through the end of the last liberal era… and it didn’t change his mind about literally anything. He would see us do the top down command and control economics that crashed liberalism last time. If we do that we’ll be planting the seeds of our own destruction just as surely as the GOP did when they let the lobbyists get a whole new level of access to government under Nixon.

I’m not entirely sure it’s possible to avoid creating structural flaws that will eventually become unsustainable, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to let people advocate for really obvious ones without my objecting to it as loudly as I can. We need smart modern liberalism that understands where capitalism offers the best solutions and where government offers the best solutions… and we need to stop small groups of people from gaining disproportionate power over the government entirely. Those powerful people will basically commit political embezzlement and eventually destroy everything we’re trying to build just like the lobbyists whose methods were pioneered by Black, Manafort, Stone, and Kelly destroyed the GOP.

I’m not sure how much I buy this. A war is a really easy way to frame your support for a completely unsupportable president, trolls the libs, and fits in with Trump’s narrative of coming in and doing the shit that rednecks talk about doing but the adults in the room have always prevented.

Also, trump has been following every step of the dictator’s playbook. Why do we think he wouldn’t do this?

Being anti-war feels, to me, like a position that a lot of Americans find themselves agreeing with for no real reason. Like, kind of like how everybody agrees they hate nickelback even though most people used to be kinda into nickelback. It’s not like most of these people have a reason to be against wars in the ME, it’s just what’s socially expected so they roll with it.

What’s socially expected can change really quickly, especially among a group of people who get their social cues from a coordinated propaganda machine like Fox News/the GOP.

My reaction to this is: we should start another war in the Middle East. I’m not opposed to killing a few Arabs if it will decrease Trump’s chances of being re-elected.

Trollywantacracker?

war increases re-election chances historically

Yeah… I get called out a lot on this site for having the occasional downright gross viewpoint. I think this is a bridge too far man. Particularly after we murdered well over a million people in Iraq/Afghanistan. Especially since the people who actually did 9/11 are who we’re going to be rushing to the defense of.

No worries Putin wont let him attack Iran…then again Russia would make more from their oil and selling arms…so.

The media will have America foaming at the mouth for another war in no time. There was zero opposition to W’s forever wars, no one’s going to raise a fuss if Trump sends Generation Z off to their first war.

Starting to panic a little bit about him retaliating against Iran now. Dear god don’t let this moron push that button. And if he does let it end at a smallish strike that lets him save face but doesn’t trigger an actual war.

Goddamn do I hate the Saudi’s right now.

Every team’s got em. I have to root for fucking Tom Brady every week.

And shit, Curt Schilling was a hero when I was younger…

It should upset you as a human being with a functioning brain stem.

Yankees fans are more likely to be deplorable than Mets fans.

Citation not needed.

I just assume all athletes are Republicans and try to avoid hearing any of their political views because they’re almost always even dumber than your regular Joe deplorable.
