I see we’ve arrived at the “any resistance to OPEN FOR BUSINESS is politically motivated” phase of the pandemic.
We’ve come full circle from the earliest days when conservative media was dismissing all coronavirus concerns as just the latest effort to hurt Trump.

Republican senators still believe in magical trump polls but are getting flustered by all the polling showing trump behind every us governor and every world leader.

A Senate Republican strategist said GOP candidates will have to play offense by making November’s elections more of a choice between Republican and Democratic ideologies than a referendum on Trump’s performance.
Arguably, Democrats need to keep the election as a referendum on Trump as much as possible instead of making it a choice. Republicans in Congress could defend against this strategy by not supporting Trump, but what are the chances of that?

They are all too afraid to do that because they know the chances of Trump turning on them directly and pounding on them daily is huge.
Trump would absolutely sabotage a republican senate in the name of revenge and responding to disloyalty.
They might be willing to do it in a scenario where Trump looks like an inevitable loser but their seats look salvageable.

Start with the tax case pending before the Supreme Court. "Mr. President, what are you hiding in your tax returns? Why did you lie when you said you would release them? (Get interrupted) "Sir are you worried you have lost unanimously in every lower court to date? (Get interrupted again). “Mr. President how much money do you owe Chinese banks?” (Now he starts screaming)…Next reporter asks Chinese banks question over again.
Mr. President, over the weekend Barack Obama said (whatever he said). Polls show that Americans trust Mr. Obama over you by a 2:1 margin. Does that bother you?"
“Mr. President yesterday you tweeted or re-tweeted 125 times, including retweeting false Q conspiracy theorists and random people in your mentions. You expressed no regret at the death toll. What the hell is wrong with you?”
“Mr. President, are you scared of going to jail if you are defeated in November?”
And that’s not even getting into the straight trolling that would really get him going.

Not really because no matter what Trump will have a 30% of full blown cult loyalists and if the senators turn on Trump, those 30% will turn on those senators, and they can’t win without them. They make up the majority of their base.
They rise and fall with Trump.

It’d be a situation where the polls make it look like they are guaranteed to lose if tied to Trump. There’s some chance a Republican might throw a Hail Mary because what have they got to lose. Unlikely, but I don’t rule out the possibility.

Don’t know if he’s capable enough, but if Biden ever debates him, he should turn that stuff up to eleven. Get in trump’s incompetence and bankruptcies, cheating when Barron was a babe in arms. Outright call him a bigot, the whole works.
Yeah, unfortunately that’s the exact problem with Biden. He’s too much of a dotard to pull it off even if extensively prepped. Literally any of the other 20+ dems could have pulled it off easily.

There’s some hope that Biden will act like a cranky old man with no fucks given in some spots where some of the other candidates would have tried to be more diplomatic and cautious about providing sound bites for the opposition to use.
