This is why the most important pillar of the right’s success has been their attack on knowledge and elites. It’s what allows everything else. Destroy the peoples faith in science, government, the media, credentials and the very idea one person can know more about something, no matter how complex, and you get to run wild with policy.
That is why the favourite mantra of the YouTube right is “but look at the evidence and make up your own mind”. This is an incredibly appealing notion to Americans who are bred to believe in their own exceptionalism, above all else. It sounds great on the surface. Nevermind that no person can be expert on everything, or even moderately knowledgeable. It’s the very reason why democracy exists.
However, if you want the people to ignore the facts in front of their eyes about tax cuts for billionaires, flooding the streets with guns, covid death rates, increasing disasters from climate change, or their own shrinking standard of living you need them to distrust the sources of all the counter evidence.
The very idea that testing to know if you have covid is a bad idea is just the perfectly logical extension of this same war on knowledge.

There are quite a few things I’d be far more likely to value over IQ. These are the things that define how IQ manifests such that it’s easy to think a person with a high IQ is a moron.
Memory recall
Response inhibition
Sustained focus
Secure personal attachments
Scale-shifted assessments (able to see big AND little picture)
If you remove any one of these things, a person with a bigger IQ than Sklansky will go through school and probably their entire life thinking they are stupid. Only because they are missing basic skills in their thought and behavior process.
On the other hand, if a person is good at all of those things, no one will think to give them an IQ test because those traits are the building blocks of high quality outcomes.
I think them not wearing masks is because Trump thinks wearing masks makes you look weak so nobody around him wears them.
It is distilled trump idiocy.

We need to be testing every person in the country every two weeks. Then it works and makes a huge difference.
Testing ten people over and over is worthless when they are around hundreds of others.

I just want to note too that all of these traits are diminished or functionally non-existent in the presence of survival-dependent motivations. Humans have limited mental and emotional resources. Not a lot left over for focus or recall if you’re working eighteen hour days for the privilege of eating this month. Thus people of means might appear to be smarter when really they’re just able to think clearly.
Give everyone UBI and UHC and free college. A lot of smart people will emerge just in time for Skynet to tsk tsk.
