I think thatā€™s actually a huge part of my anxiety during the Trump presidency. All of the things we do to make the world a better place, and then Trump comes in and nukes so much that Iā€™m like JFC, then what was the point? What a huge waste of my time and everyone elseā€™s. It almost feels worse to make hard sacrifices and then see it all just disappear.

While the AG works overtime to try and get the ACA dismantled in the courts, Trump continues with this nonsense.

I would love to know one person besides Trump who thinks lots of testing would not be good.

https://twitter.com/ddale8/status/1258101420345171968

ā€œWouldnā€™t it be nice if this was true?ā€ Trump said, knowing that all he had to do for it to be true was convince everyone to pretend that it is.

Too many Coronavirus positives? Just stop testing. Not knowing whether people are infected is as good as, and some are saying far more rapidly effective, treating the virus itself.

Speaking of how to put those $1,200 stimulus monies to use, never been a better time to buy buy buy

Ah yeah, talent in midwestern states develops so much slower than where itā€™s sunny all the time. I played in Florida throughout highschool, and weā€™d always play a couple highschool teams that traveled down In the winter from places like Kentucky or Indiana to scrimmage us. Our team was always mediocre mid-size HS, and it seemed these teams would always be among the best in their classification, but they were usually only competitive with us. They would have gotten smoked by the top teams in our division. I imagine if youā€™d have grown up someplace warm you would have had a much better chance of moving to the next level.

Thatā€™s because we were working on the wrong things. Thereā€™s a reason why security and stability are absolutely required to build a developed nation. We were busy building nice stuff while our enemies were still alive and well. If thereā€™s one thing that the Obama years should have taught us, itā€™s that the modern GOP has to be destroyed before we can bother investing any political capital in anything else.

I hear you. I think the point of disagreement for me with this kind of thoughtā€“not necessarily with you-- is that I think thatā€™s the kind of thinking that makes people as vicious, self serving, and outcome-focused as the GOP. The fact that we want different outcomes is a coincidence when the underlying strategy is the same. The strategy itself is inhuman and evil. Imo.

Is it more evil and inhuman than letting the entire country sink under the waves? Because thatā€™s literally the choice weā€™re being presented with.

I take issue with the whole ā€˜itā€™s not worth winning if we become the people we hateā€™ position. Thatā€™s propaganda fed to us as children by the predators that run our society to make us into willing victims. If the other guy hits you, you hit him back. Then when he falls down you keep beating him until youā€™re quite certain heā€™ll never hit you again. Then you go on about your business comfortable in the knowledge that the next guy who thinks about hitting you will think about what happened to the first guy.

ā€œDo unto others as they would do unto youā€ is my version of the golden rule. I do not owe scumbags honesty, kindness, or any other good thing. I will not commence hostilities but woe unto you if you commence them with me. Being any other way is opting into victimhood. I am not anyoneā€™s victim. I am a semi large number of peopleā€™s horrible mistake.

The very idea that we would offer any compromise or opportunity for political profit to the GOP in 2020 makes me physically ill. Our job at this point isnā€™t to find a way to work with themā€¦ itā€™s to push them out of power and then ruin them personally so that others will recognize the folly of their choices. If I were Joe Biden going into 2021 the entire DOJ would be unleashed upon the Republicans to opportunistically find every single prosecutable action carried out by any of them since the statute of limitations on every crime in the federal code. Iā€™d also burn every single one of their major donors to the ground. What they have done to this country since 2000 canā€™t be seen as a good choice by anyone else in the future. The nation remaining intact depends on it. If you want to enter politics you do that to serve your country or you stay in the private sector.

One nice thing about this moron and the new GA Inside trading grifter and all around awful Susan Collins is that it shows female leaders can suck just as badly as male leaders. My gender doesnā€™t have a lock on political suckitude.

Let me think about this. We will probably have to agree to disagree. Iā€™ve spent my life innately driven to ponder this question and have found that yes, I consider the position you describe to be evil and inhuman. At the same time, I recognize that in the real world, such compromises might be necessary. Is this one? Maybe. That doesnā€™t make punishing someone until I can control their behavior any less evil.

Thank you for your thoughts.

When evil gets to a certain point using all of your political and physical might is not only advisable to stamp it out but the ethical thing to do. Consider ww2. Certainly killing millions to eventually be mostly rid of the Nazis was a ends justify the means for the world situation right?

The only real question is how far along that spectrum the 2020 GOP actually is.

I think the moment when morality comes into it is when that other person decides to come at me. I do feel some obligation to warn them in the initial stages of the unholy mess they are about to be inā€¦ and I do that. But after that point theyā€™ve done it to themselves and I take no responsibility for how it goes for them. They picked the situation not me.

My perspective would be completely flipped if I were the aggressor. If Iā€™m attacking someone else ALL of the evil that comes from that choice is on me.

Iā€™d also like to point out that I think that the turn the other cheek crowd is actually doing something unethical by free riding off of me. A lot of the reason why bad actors donā€™t do awful stuff to you is that they are concerned about the risk involved. That risk comes from the fact that the next metaphorical rock they turn over might have me under it. My willingness to respond in an unpleasant way protects you.

I just skimmed the deep philosophy above. Iā€™ve already told the wife If I get something terminal she might be surprised at what Iā€™d be capable of doing. Loss of insurance for her and the kids is probably the only thing that would stop me. I donā€™t think Iā€™d have moral qualms if the evil is as extreme as some are today.

Now letā€™s get back to utter incompetence.

To rise to that level politically you have to reach a certain benchmark of suckitude in all but the rarest cases.

Most need to sell their souls to the corporate overlords that hold DC in bondage in order to receive the funding necessary to be competitive, putting their mastersā€™ financial desires ahead of the needs of their constituents, regardless of gender. Of course there are unicorns like AOC and Bernie, but they are few and far between.

While complete monsters such as McConnell and tRump tend to be male, their female counterparts have shown their capabilities to be moral-less arbiters of suck as well. From both sides of the aisle.
