Like, this is treason. Fuck this guy.
Thanks again, Harvard
Trump announces official designation of his shadow VP
It really doesn’t matter who wins at this point, The losing side will claim election rigging. Democracy relies on the trust of the people who are being governed by it in order to be legitimate. When the majority no longer believes that their democracy is legitimate, it’s broken for good and wide open for the growth of an authoritarian state.
A second term of Trump is the end of democracy in America.
Andy took on a British accent about 3 years ago for some weird reason so now he talks like that lol
Yeah it would be the formalization of the tyranny of the rural white Christian minority.
Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That’s how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died
I went ahead and requested my free Trump sign. I need a good firestarter.
Cohen was a god.
So if I read the news right this morning Rosenstein and Mueller gave cover to Trump by not looking into his taxes and doing a full investigation?
Yes.
Note that the NYT has offered absolutely zero apology or even shown a baseline level of self awareness after running with “No Trump/Russia Conspiracy” headlines and buying Barr’s obviously incorrect “clearing” of Trump.
The shit we’re going to eventually learn is going to make Watergate look like absolutely nothing. Future US History students, if they aren’t learning about Dear Leader, are going to be mega-confused.
That’s exactly one scaramucci!

Thanks for the detailed response. For background, she’s Vietnamese and came here as a refugee when she was ~3 yo. She’s been somewhat indoctrinated with patriotic nonsense. I sent her a book for her bd. Maybe should have sent A People’s History.
- Trump has about 40% approval, do you think more voters want him or Biden to be president?
We talked about this. I told her in a fair election I’d give Trump 1 chance in 3 but it’s much closer with him cheating. She asked if I meant USPS stuff and we talked about other possible shenanigans.
- If Trump wins in those circumstances, are we a well-functioning democracy or do we have some systemic problems?
She agrees that he could well win with less than a majority of popular vote, as he did last time, and as Bush did. We talked about the EC, which she supports because small states otherwise would have much less power. I pointed out that it’s an artifact of slavery but she looked askance at that. I feel this is an area I could make some headway.
- Who’s going to stop Trump and the GOP from making all of the above worse?
She knows he’s broken convention, rule, and law with little or no consequence. Agrees he will push this to the limit in a second term, but doesn’t see that the limit is past the point of democratic collapse.
- Remind her that they still have “elections” in Russia and other autocratic countries.
She’s well aware and it’s something she might have gotten from her parents, that this can’t happen here because the US has stood in opposition to those kinds of regimes.
She asked if there was even one thing I’d give Trump credit for, like criminal justice reform. I told her I couldn’t because he’s just so ignorant of and disinterested in policy except in ways that personally benefit him and that I doubted he did more than sign his name and take credit for that reform.
She seems to know a lot about him as a person. She read his niece’s book; said maybe we should sympathize with him because he was the product of a dysfunctional family. I responded I’d be a lot more likely to sympathize if he weren’t president and screwing up so many people’s lives and futures. We talked about Covid and she agrees he fucked up the response. I was surprised she played down the numbers some so I corrected her stats. I hope she does a little research to see I know what I’m talking about and what a huge deal this is.
She probably thinks I’m being strictly partisan and am being unfair to Trump as a person because I view him as completely irredeemable. I think I know where this comes from in her personal history and is another area I could change her thinking about.
All of this is unfortunately to some degree academic because it was the first time we’d talked at length in 7 years and it might be the last. We used to, all the time. I really miss that.
The federal government down to local police are cheering on and openly supporting right wing murder squads. There is nothing to be optimistic about today.
When our best hope is a blood clot, it is a bleak day.
