I posted this in the old forum but a while back when i was poor and just scrapping by i ate off the dollar menu for about five years and lost about 15 pounds and felt like i was in good shape. My main meal was two cheese burgers two fry’s for two dollars something.
Its all i ate though one meal no snacks so i could not of been much over 1600 cal a day.
Dollar menus are a key part of surviving broke, but its still somewhat of a treat, you’re still much better off grocery shopping and looking for sales. You can find a generic box of pasta and generic jar of spaghetti sauce for $2 and $1 respectively, which is several meals and a ton of calories. There are these giant pizzas you can sometimes get (not frozen but not cooked) for $3-$4 dollars. Shitty frozen dinners can go on sale for as low as a $1. Of course just a jar or generic peanut butter, jar of jelly, and loaf of white bread is a lot of sandwiches for super cheap.
But nothing compares to Ramen noodles, especially on sale. I remember them being $0.02 a pack at one point.
Anyway glad that period of my life is behind me, at least food-wise, as its completely miserable.
I was either talking about an earlier post or you edited it. You made 8 hamburgers? Or at least you have to before the stuff gets bad or goes stale. That’s not really a fair comparison to going to FF for lunch.
I very rarely eat at McD’s. On the dollar menu at Del Taco you get a 1/2 lb burrito (get the green) and a Tostada for $2 + tax. Pretty solid lunch. Cup of water obv. The reason I go to fast food is because I am working out in the field and didn’t bring my lunch. When I do bring my lunch it probably averages at lest the $2 + tax, but sometimes it’s less. (it’s not that rare that I’ll spend massive amounts like even over $10 on lunch, but that’s not what we’re talking about and if I do go to ff, cost is a big part of it.)
I was told by a maternal health worker that when you start feeding your kids solids always start with stuff like pureed broccoli because then they get used to those type of foods. It’s much harder to get kids to eat non sugary foods if the first thing you give them is pureed fruit. We are naturally designed to like sugar.
It breaks my heart when I see fat parents getting their fat kids a jumbo soda and bag of candy at the gas station.
I don’t necessarily blame the adult, they are dealing with their own lack of education, resources, and addictions, but god damn I just feel like that kid is going to be at such a big disadvantage in life.
Offer tax credits / rebates / subsidies / vouchers for buying healthy foods. Make rich assholes pay for it. Taxing it like a vice is a public opinion loser.
If we agree that healthcare is a human right, then how is access to some basic ass food like fresh fruits and vegetables not as well? A chicken that isn’t a deep-fried racemic mixture of pink slime and Elmer’s glue in every pot.
For me it was the opposite. I dont eat FF often anymore but when i do its better then ever. Been thinking about going back on my dollar menu diet because im about 25 pounds overweight… Should probably just eat less non fast food.
Mostly beef of some sort and not many vegetables. Ive never like sweets so not much of them. My diet is not good which is probably why a quarter pounder is still so tasty. Friend of mine gave up beef, sugar, dairy and bread and he says the same as you about ff not tasting good.
And yeah Ive worked in restaurants quite a bit even some nice ones. Their food id guess has more calories for a lot stuff.
Since this is now the FF thread, y’all ever eat an A&W burger? Those things are hella good. They shut down the one by me and idk where any more are in my area.
