His father was the legendary editor of the New Yorker for like 30 years so that’s the world he grew up in.

Yeah, I think that the author probably meets lots of Republican lawyers and doctors who are basically like Mitt Romney, and thinks that’s what all upper class Republicans are like. When would the author ever come face to face with a rural community based car dealership owner? Those guys are a powerful part of the Trump base because they’re just like Donnie Dumb Dumb - stupid, sexist, racist, with undeserved often inherited wealth, and thoroughly disrespected by the coastal elites despite their nominal wealth.
