There is far more apathy outside of this site on impeachment. least the people offline im around. Most were just glad they dont have to here about it anymore.
Frankly my biggest gripe with this site is that it ignores stuff that’s important because that takes time to digest. Caucus rigged is easy, Dems suck is easy, but reading about a crime syndicate or watching the 15 minutes of any portion of the House Managers’ impeachment arguments that show he did it is just too fucking much to do. That’s a microcosm of the worst things in this country. Some people take this as a personal affront because it’s exactly what they’re doing. I don’t care if you agree with me, I really really don’t. I want you to look at this stuff, find your own significance of its meaning, and adjust your battle accordingly. Screaming about Caucuses and murdering all the Democratic candidates in the primary is not a winning strategy. Surely you see that.
And trust me, I’ve been belittled on this site for optimism more than literally anyone else who seems to want it all to burn and for them to be right about this. This thread should show you that. I won’t be optimistic after 2020 at all, if we lose, but there’s no fucking way I’m conceding anything before then. This site’s already conceded it no matter what you think.
Actually, this site tracks pretty well with reality related to apathy. Hardly anyone here paid attention to the impeachment trial. Hardly anyone posted in the trial portion of the TV thread. That’s why I’m concerned about 2020, especially when I see something like 6 or 7 people saying they won’t vote for any candidate vs. Trump.
Dems with the House, Dems with the Senate, and Dems with the presidency IS raw power.
Dems with the House, GOP with the Senate, and Dems with the presidency is NO power. And it only takes 4 seats to change to change that dynamic, and 6 to destroy it.
After Wednesday, if Trump wins in 2020, Dems with the House, Dems with the Senate, and GOP presidency also means no power theoretically. It would be pure gridlock and the president going around the Congress as they just gave him the power to do as King.
Your strategy is your way or the highway. You’re depending on being right in the face of 250 years of elections saying you’re wrong. The highway gives the GOP an unfettered control of this country for the rest of my life while in the minority, and likely yours. It also makes it quite likely there will be some kind of revolution in the not too distant future. If we don’t win in 2020, it’s time to burn it down, but not before.
Not with most of the people im around and its not even close. Doubt many could even name the head of the Senate trial or even one senator by name. I mean i cant tell you how many times i had to explain yes he is still impeached after it was over…
There are a lot of basically apolitical people out there who are not engaged apathetic and dont like when you make them think about politics. Which is why they are glad impeachment is over so they dont have to hear about it anymore.
Polls do not agree with you. He absolutely lost on impeachment in the polls. It went from no, don’t remove him with 50 percent. The no steadily went down, while the remove went up a little bit to right around 50 percent with a few polls over 50 percent for removal (11 percent of Democrats were against removal…wtf). The end result was that roughly 49 percent of polled people in this country wanted him removed, and 41 to 43 percent wanted him to stay. 8 to 10 percent percent made the firm decision to say they didn’t know anymore.
There has been little notice of impeachment on my fb, and I have a ton of friends that I grew up with who are certainly GOP. They never talk about it, not because they agree with the acquittal or conviction, but because they don’t want to be on the record (many of these types were MAD when Pelosi tore up the speech). On the eve of the acquittal, I wrote a post essentially begging people to pay attention, and why. I had friends I hadn’t seen in years liking that post, ones who are never engaged in politics.
As I already said, this acquittal will affect every person in this country eventually. By the time people realize it, it will be too late to do anything about it which is why people need to mobilize for the 2020 election right now. That’s my play, anyone else can do whatever they want. I still everyone should vote for whoever the nominee is against Trump.
Why are you leveling me with excellent empathetic posts?
Sportsball contests are serious business, Just look at all the people I pissed off on Twitter because I would not drop bringing up Kobe’s legacy of rape.
But seriously, I do believe we should use sports fandom as a model for predicting political behavior. This isn’t an Enlightenment salon. This isn’t some some genteel debating society. Logic will not sway the American people. Treat politics as a bloodsport and act accordingly.
Bernie isn’t my first choice, but I love that he has fans who are excessive in attacking other candidates. We need people with that passion, decorum be damned. The problem is that they are Bernie fans, not Democrat fans. We need more yellow dog Democrats and we need to target those demographics that are the most fertile for creating those sorts of fans of the party.
I disagree with your optimism because I think it assumes more rationality on the part of the electorate than I believe they are capable of.
Alright man…not really worth arguing about anyway.
Will say with the corrupt GOP the only way out was really always voting him out, or massive protests.
Which is why i dont think she should of sent it over. Nancy should of held off the vote, sent out the subpoenas for documents and witnesses and let it hang over his head well blaming him for the delay. They could of even added to things as they came out during the court battles.
I agree here, I’m raging atm and I’m not even American lol.
I honestly think you have the wrong read on @JohnnyTruant I’m feeling his pain atm with politics, as I am yours.
It’s hard to articulate what I’m trying to say I suppose, but I believe if you 2 met for a beer or 2 it would all be sorted.
Also I feel your pain regarding the Impeachment threads as I was also looking forward to some educational posts and thanks to @CanadaMatt3004 I got some but not as many as I thought, it was disappointing tbh.
Most posters were working tbh, so it didn’t help things…
Its a tough choice after 2020 if Trump wins if your you, or most here as most have a pretty decent life, and the only thing I can say to that is that the quality of life does not depend on your net worth or value and its pretty cheap to stay most everywhere outside the financial city’s.
Im worried, extremely worried for the future, Austerity hit the homes here hard and it’s the weak who suffer the most, worse conditions are on the way and no-one around me is even bothered. It’s frustrating, as we are about to force talk on pushing through independence without the support of the government. Hopefully.
Im scared also because there’s lots about Trump we don’t know, what their planning etc and just recently like you mentioned with last Friday I assume it’s the CBP stuff and the NYC citizens rights stuff it’s beginning to get scary.
Barr too OMG!! Actually someone predicted that and has been 99% correct on most all of it, if not 100%, if it goes really bad then we need to gtfo as this site alone would be good enough for them and hence the reason some posters don’t put out like some, IMO.
All in all Nunnehi I hated the abuse you took and tbh I hate seeing any hate dished out, so it’s not because I like or dislike you as a poster, I like to think I’d care for most anyone, except to to far gone obviously. It’s part of where I grew up, we look out for all, always. And posters ain’t people imo.
I’m glad you documented the whole process where ever it ends up As it needed to be done.
Most here I believe know that your on the same side, I’d say people’s ego need tamped down a bit but wtf do I know, I’m a stoopkid.
Peace out brother…
Thanks for the nice shoutout Smacc.
I’ve actually got a longform article that Im working on regarding the trial, Trump, and the limits of executive powers that I was hoping to find a place to post here once I’ve finished it.
Maybe we could get a separate forum header for long form articles?
I’m not shifting back and forth. Compare your work here to your recent work in the Iowa Caucus thread. Your work here is way better than there.
Here are the questions for you:
- Before Wednesday, did you believe the president of the U.S. is a King?
- Before Wednesday, did you believe the Congress had the ability to investigate wrongdoing in the Executive Branch even if it didn’t end up the way you wanted?
- If someone you don’t like wins the Democratic nomination, but loses to Trump because you won’t vote for them, does that mean you fully approve that Trump can do whatever he wants and that he can’t be investigated for any wrongdoing?
- Now if you somehow believed 1 and 2 were already happening, just secretly, maybe you can have a point. But are you comfortable with that being flouted? In 2012, ACA was on the ballot with Obama. Voting him out was getting rid of it. In 2020, corruption and a president doing whatever he/she wants is on the ballot with Trump. Is that what you really want?
If Trump gets back in, Washington will burn to the ground, and the Constitution will literally not exist anymore. That’s essentially what Tea Party Senator Mike Lee wants, and they are begging for the voters to endorse it. That’s the game we’re playing in, whether you like it or not. I hope you won’t mind the result if staying home endorses that, and staying home is an endorsement of that.
My whole point is that you’re looking at the Iowa Caucus as the big deal, when the impeachment acquittal set the stage for that not mattering even a tiny bit. They are completely intertwined. I find it really hard to believe that’s what you want if you can’t get Bernie. He matters not a bit if we can’t win the Senate too.
I consider Trump to be an endless and constant national security threat who is selling out the country to anyone who gives him what he wants personally (trademarks/emoluments, etc.) in regard to foreign policy. If you don’t send those articles over, you don’t find that a problem and only look at him as the bad guy that we have to beat in the election. You’re only using it as a bludgeon and not as a real threat. I think he’s one of the most dangerous, if not the most dangerous people on the planet, and he needed to be removed by last June frankly after the results of the Mueller report.
There’s no way the Ukraine scandal investigation should have taken nearly 3 months to wrap up (they started from a smoking gun confession!). That was a problem, and it’s real ground the GOP has to stand on about how serious the Democrats think the national security threat of Trump really is. The American people didn’t swear an oath to the Constitution, the Congress did. Every single House and Senate member who did not convict Trump does not belong in Congress, because they don’t believe in their oath to the Constitution.
The framers put impeachment in to stop a president prior to an election (they considered letting the people decide that, and decided that was a bad idea). That was the point. The voters can’t be trusted because they don’t get it. The GOP senators absolutely know what kind of threat the president is, but they want it…they want it so bad, because the demographics are disappearing on them. They want to burn it all down on the way out.
I meant that Trump fired both Vindman brothers and Ambassador Gordon Sondland. Nearly every person who testified even remotely unfavorably in the impeachment inquiry no longer has their jobs. Up next is Mick Mulvaney. If he fires any of those three people prior to the impeachment trial it might have at least lengthened the trial. The GOP senators all know it was wrong to do it, but he can basically say ‘you just told me I can do whatever I want, and I’m going to do what I want’. They made the grave tactical error that he won’t come for them too. He will.
As I said above, the amount of Senators who basically admitted Trump did it ended up right around 67 (I counted 16 who overtly said it happened). I wouldn’t have wanted to be the 67th senator on that. With the ones who tried to talk him out of firing Sondland (none spoke on the floor), they probably could have gotten to about 71 who would have admitted it was wrong (though Ron Johnson would have wanted to die voting to convict him). If you don’t have 67, you don’t have any. I wish a couple would have taken the bullet (Collins/Murkowski) to get it to 50/50 to guarantee he can never say he was acquitted by a majority.
Really good post overall. I’m worried. I agree with Johnny on all his points, but I still feel we can win. That’s our difference. And I won’t lose that hope we can win until the election. I feel the same way now I did in 2018 in the run up. It went as I expected. I’m not as confident now, and the stakes are beyond high at this point.
You were a hero and a champion, and I still wish you would have posted more. I watched the entire trial (sometimes not closely), and it was infuriating (the Impeachment Managers put on a great case, and the defense team was spouting off about 200 lies per hour).
I know you tried to watch the speeches, but couldn’t. I watched them in double time to make my video (did not look at Rand Paul’s visual aid, and sped through his speech so I couldn’t hear the alleged whistleblower’s name), and you cannot comprehend how angry I was making the video (after two speeches I thought I was making a mistake, but I had to do it). My translations of their speeches graphics sometimes were really hot based on how I felt coming up with them.
But you’re okay with it all being out in the open, and if Trump decides to shoot an immigrant kid in the head that it’s okay? That’s what this election is about man. This stuff leaves the shadows if he is re-elected. We will be full on Nazi Germany.
I really wish you would have answered all of the questions, instead of just answering the first two.
wat come on dude.
What’s nonsense about:
- Do you want the president to do anything he or she wants with no investigations of wrongdoing for any president, but especially Trump if he gets re-elected and you sat out?
- Trump doing whatever he wants is the key ballot question in 2020. If he wins, will you be okay that you sat out with him being able to do anything he wants?
This is like a ballot initiative man, ‘Should Trump be allowed to do anything he wants?’.
With all those emoticons you post I just can’t imagine you really raging.
Yeah i agree with all that especially sending it over after the Mueller report. Problem is reps were not removing him regardless.
So why not change things up and hold it over his head until the election and use and hammer home the fact trump is not cooperating and is obstructing as a reason its taking so long. All the while gathering more damning evidence in hopes to make it impossible for reps not to convict.
You are preaching to the quire mostly. Though i dont think it changes a single vote if they sent it over right away.
Sure. And sending it over has not changed any of that. If anything trump is getting stronger from the acquittal and any new dirt will be that much harder to make stick.
Look i wanted impeachment for the do the right thing reasons and a lot of what you said. Im not so sure now in hindsight. If how it was done makes it harder to get him out…idk.
Not reading the new 60 posts but it looks like its mostly nun wall of text like usual. Let me guess he is playing the victim and not owning up to how wrong he was about everything?
Can we just OK Boomer this guy and move on. The site got light years better with few or no squabbles that weren’t quickly squashed once this attention whore wrote his manifestos elsewhere.
