You realize that a candidate for pres could just hire these guys to write their prepared material, right? It’s not like they can’t afford it.
Even their prepared statements suck.

I think what you might be seeing here is that they aren’t targeting you… at all. Also the funniest thing about your post for me is that I went down an adderall fueled wormhole on the writers of the west wing… and they had a bunch of political speechwriters in those rooms too. The same kind of people who write the candidates prepared statements.
The West Wing was fictional. They got to write both sides of the dialog just for starters, which when you think about it structurally is a hell of a thing. They also got to write what the results of every line would be.
Insanely enough though as I think about it Obama might have gotten to your halfway there standard. Barely. Maybe. He’s that good.
But they already do this. For real.
Pete has been pretty close to West Wing on Fox News lately. I think he would carve up The Least Racist Emperor Ever pretty easily, but the flip side is that only a small slice of well educated voters would appreciate it.
I mentioned that in the post above:
The point is they could do a much better job. They don’t need to talk like the West Wing actors. But they can be closer to that level of effectiveness for their audience. Surely they can hire a crack team of writers to connect with whoever you think the target audience to be.
Who is they? We know for damn sure Trump doesn’t.
Trump agreed, but the Dems are long in the tooth hiring excellent writers to help craft their messaging.
Pete excecuting dunks on Fox is a perfect example. And he’s certainly not West Wing level. But he’s damn good. I’m sure all of his burns are prepped and there is a decent chance he comes up with most of it himself. If he has help, it’s probably not a room of WW writers.
I just don’t get the reliance on getting markets for prognostications. These markets are hyper inefficient when it comes to analyzing political races.
After Biden kicks his ass, HBO or someone should offer Trump an opportunity to grift in a series of head to head debates against Pete, AOC, Ilhan… Put up a $10M purse for each, good guys play for charity, he can keep it if he wins.
That’s a very different situation imo. I too could deliver devastating scripted responses when I only have to dominate a two-minute anchor clip
I don’t know about that. Conventional wisdom on here is that Dems suck at messaging.
Nevertheless, returning to the original point, I don’t doubt Biden has a team helping him. The problem is that he cant’ take advantage of the help. As I said earlier:
Most of Churchills famous one liners and zingers were well rehearsed and scripted.
Heck, a lot of the reason Trump won in 2016 is he didn’t talk like a politician.
Has anyone went back and watched the old debates? I wonder if Trump was sharper back then.
Oh I see! Then
Agreed. It’s a tough job. You can get a great orator who sucks at politics. A great politician who can’t get votes.
You just need to get 10 of these cooked up and you’ll easily have 50% (or more) of the material you need for a debate.
I see that sentiment expressed on here a lot but I’m convinced the reason they suck at messaging is they don’t have the same message we have.
This is also something that can be coached/trained.
See: Ocasio Cortez, Alexandria
I really doubt the Trump approach is going to work again. It’s already played out. A lot of fad brands are like that. They are insanely hot for a year or two, and the last 20 containers that got ordered of them end up as landfill pretty much instantly.
I totally disagree about it being possible to coach/train a persona like Trump or AOC’s either. That kind of skillset comes from living a specific life. It’s not something you can force. I’m pretty sure what we’re talking about here is authenticity by the way.
