You give children too little credit. I teach teenagers who are way smarter and more perceptive than most adults I know. Theyāre internet denizens. They know what theyāre doing and are very much aware that itās forever.
Children are made to grow up way faster than we were. School shootings were just starting to become a thing when I was 13. An entire generation has had to grow up acutely aware of that risk. I didnāt give a shit about politics and knew nothing about the world as a teenager. A shocking number of my students have fully established political ideologies that have quite a bit of nuance to them. They work way harder and learn way more difficult material than I did when I was their age. The students I teach act and think more like young adults than old teenagers. Sometimes their questions end up overwhelming their teachers and embarrass them quite a bit.
Clovis, you need to update your view on teenagers because it is severely outdated.
