Trump is by far the stingiest so far. And looking at the list, it has an especially high concentration of dickheads. Maybe put an asterisk on the front of future medals with “*Awarded by President X” on the back.

I think Mitch losing the leadership would be huge (would he in case of a 50/50 split?). Forcing Republican Senators to vote against popular bills makes their job harder. Of course they will continue to spew BS, but they will have to vote against the American Election Security and Give 2k To Everyone Act. Might even trick Trump into tweeting about it (he will still be a force in the Republican party after the inauguration).

Trump and other Republicans are giving him the perfect opportunity to rig this election. If he wanted to, he could certainly find a way to go along with Trump and pretend what he’s doing is legal, yet he told Trump, and evidently Linsey Graham, to pound sand.

You don’t really need to imagine this! Belief in the rule of law and the peaceful transition of power through election results runs much, much, much deeper in this country than the belief in equal ballot access. There’s no shortage at all of people who had a committed belief in seeing election rules followed while being perfectly willing to monkey with those election rules as much as they could to give themselves a partisan advantage.
Finally a freaking democrat does something smart.

I just want to note that nobody in the military is going to risk being put to death for treason for Trump.
If they take crazy action and trump doesn’t succeed in dictator for life, they would be completely fucked.

The fatal flaw in your thinking is to miss the fact that morality, or at least the public perception of what is moral, has a heavy influence on strategic calculations. Nor does it really matter whether political actors behave the way they do because of deep moral convictions or political expedience. In a world where everyone thought Raffensperger’s decision whether or not to throw in with Trump’s coup attempt was a purely strategic choice with no moral import, then a purely amoral actor might well throw his lot in. And in a world where people thought it was admirable to stand up for a deeper principle even when it goes against your partisan interests, a truly wicked person might see some benefit to their political career in helping to stymie Trump’s attempt at a coup…
