Maybe. Most likely he’s trying to be a right wing populist with running for pres in his future. I doubt you have a whole lot of future in right wing politics without objecting.
Trump’s narrative post presidency is going to be that the GOP establishment abandoned him. Mitch wouldn’t fight for him, Pence wouldn’t correctly count the electoral votes, in the end he was surrounded by haters and losers. Hawley being the senator to do the fight for Trump theater on the senate floor gives him the chance to be the guy who was willing to back Trump to the end.
That narrative is even stronger if Mitch ends up blocking the $2000.

Doubtful, since pundits will herald the establishment candidates as the favorites. What establishment interest wants Hawley as president?
But all that is irrelevant if he can get Trump to pick him as VP in 2024. Probably would be the most desirable VP spot in history, Trump couldn’t run for re-election, and also has no interest in the actual job, so the VP can suck up tons of authority and responsibility.

Good news. I think a Democrat should object if no Republican does as a concern troll move. Make the cowards in the Senate actually take a vote.
Then everyone make sure to log onto their burner social accounts on twitter and parler for 15 minutes a day to point out the no votes, troll trumpsters about about how the GOP voted say that Biden won the election and there was no fraud, and call Trump supporters sellout cowards if they ever vote for one of these deep state operatives ever again.
