Finally picked up some Uigeadail, poured a glass, and decided to Google it to figure out how the hell to pronounce it (it’s Oo-ga-dal, apparently) and discovered this fresh-off-the-press factoid along the way:
In the end, Ardbeg Uigadail walked away with Whisky of the Year from the competition, with a score of 95.9. Bill Lumsden from Ardbeg was named Master Distiller of the Year, and Ardbeg also walked away as the Winner of the Golden Barrel Trophy.
Chinook IPA which was extremely dank and had great aroma and flavor. Also got a mosaic lager which I thought worked extremely well in a lager and wasn’t overpowering. And a Mexican lager with salt and lime that was fine but I’m pretty over that style from craft breweries.
Was in Portland yesterday and stopped into Bissell on the way out of town.
Starting with a flavorful, crisp Pilsner. 5.6% seems high for a Pilsner, but I don’t drink them often. I’m glad that I’m starting with this, as up next will be a musty, palate-busting DIPA.
I poured the beer on that column of my deck for the photo, then immediately spilled 2 ounces out of the glass when I picked it up for my first sip. Poured some out for the UP homies, I guess.
Busy day today and making steaks tonight so I decided (especially after getting a flat tire) it was time for some whiskey again. Got into my bottle of Lagavulin 8 (which I actually got back when it was going to be a 200th anniversary limited run-- I’ve been sitting on it for a while). I still really like this stuff. Maybe not as “good” as the 16 but I like the balance the shorter time period gives between the grain and the smoke. Maybe easier to drink too.
Took two pics because the art was pretty cool on the can. Local, SD County brewer called Mother Earth. Hazy IPA. 6.9%. Not mind blowing but completely enjoyable.
I feel like every brewery is stepping their can game up to another level. Like, if I’m being honest, this is the minimum I expect now from can art when I’m buying a premium pack.
I feel bad throwing it into the recycle can. Shouldn’t I be preserving them somehow, like stacking them all up on the wall or something? I mean, we did that with crappy domestic light cans back in the day. There must be something artistic or creative that can be done with the ood cans. Right.
Gotta be careful, though. I was seduced by a few nice looking cans of Berliner Weisse last night, but when I got them home and actually read them I realised they were non alcoholic.
A lot of these cans have labels that peel off pretty easily. I’ve been doing it to improve the quality of what I put in the recycle. Recently I more carefully peeled a couple really good ones off and stuck them on a backing for later appreciation.
When I drank my first heady topper I was like ooooo so thats what all those hazy DIPAs I had were trying to taste like. Ok this all makes sense now. Yeah I get why this one is the best.
