The question I would ask is…how can they react in a way that helps Democrats win elections and hurts Republicans in elections?
They can’t. Politically Republicans will either find or manufacture errors and ignore victories. Democrats will try to explain how brilliant their 90 page response strategy guide was. Strategically the hurricane will displace more Democratic voters than Republican.

Florida home insurance companies are getting beat up.

The scam works like this: Contractors knock on doors offering to inspect homeowners’ roofs for storm damage. They say they can help get a roof replacement covered by insurance, and they persuade the homeowners to sign away their rights to file the claims themselves. The contractors then file fraudulent damage claims, and when the insurance companies balk, the contractors sue. The insurance companies usually settle the disputed claims for many times more than the original claim. Most of that money goes to the contractors’ lawyers in the form of a “contingency fee multiplier.” Some lawyers file hundreds of such lawsuits a year.

I have a friend on the Panhandle that is still waiting on a $60K from Hurricane Sally in 2020. Seems like his issue may be partially on the lawyer, but you’d think they would be incentivized to settle quick.

People who don’t have much are proud of their homes and scared/humiliated at the idea of running away from everything they’ve ever known. And some people have health conditions or else straight up don’t know what to do. In my case, I could flee my apartment in 30 seconds flat if I feel the heat around the corner and be basically okay, but that is a very privileged lifestyle.
I’m in Florida about 45 miles north of West Palm Beach and about seven miles inland. I saw the easterly swing this morning and put up my shutters, not so much because of debris concerns, but because strong winds could blow rain through some less than sturdy seals around some of my windows and doors. I think I could lose a couple of shingles off the roof and I expect lots of branches down and maybe a few small trees. I think I will keep my power, which is huge.
Moving forward past the storm, I expect a lot of people will have flood and roof damage and finding decent contractors to make repairs is going to be an enormous clusterfuck. House insurance rates are already extremely steep and are likely to get even worse. And the power outages will lead to a lot of frustration and misery.
All that said, I think I’ll be fine and very grateful for that.

Well, I’m sure that you can find a roofer to help you demonstrate the required amount of damage to your roof to qualify for a new roof.
Ha. Might not be such a bargain. I had to go with like a 10k deductible to get my house insurance under 4k, and it’s really not a very expensive house. The home insurance premiums here are apparently way different from what they are in many other places in the country.
We are talking about being the only house left standing on the shore after a category 5. That kind of ruins the neighborhood vibe if you aren’t a sociopath imho.

Seems at best this guy just wants to stay in his area of expertise and avoid getting drawn into political discussions. But more likely he’s just a deplorable. It’s a very short path from increased sea surface temperatures and hurricane production, it should 100% be in his area of expertise, and you don’t need to make it political to say so.

If Democrats actually tailored disaster relief primarily for electoral purposes, which they won’t because they aren’t sociopaths, then I hope Republicans win the next 50 elections.
