Who took a couple of years off earlier in her career. Really sounds like she’s a homebody that doesn’t enjoy life on the road and yearns for a “normal” existence.
It was funny during her previous hiatus she took up cricket (a sport she’d never played seriously as a junior) and made the national team. Clearly just a freak athlete. Maybe she takes up a third sport.
It does seem like women’s tennis in particular is an unpleasant sport to play. The year round grind must take a physical toll, I can imagine a lot of players play through and live with a lot of pain. And mentally it’s just brutal, the tennis media is lol awful and is CONSTANTLY in your face. To top all that off, pro women’s tennis players are constantly being sexualized. If you can win $20+ million by age 25 I can totally understand bailing on all that.

Wimbledon banned Russian and Belarusian players.
Seems like it will have no effect on world affairs and as far as I know, none of the affected players have spoken out in support of Putin or Lukashenko regarding Ukraine. I mean there is precedent for players being banned (German and Japanese players were banned from Wimbledon post WW2) but I don’t see much of a point.

I’d say give them an option to renounce Russian citizenship and they’re good. I’m sure some other country would take them. Or maybe they can play if they agree all winnings go to Ukraine.
I’m normally against punishing average Russians, but these guys are rich enough that they have options and are explicitly representing Russia (plus a portion of their winnings will go to Russia as taxes).
