SARS-CoV-2: Electric Superflu

Really interesting article and data visualizations

My project manager sounds like death on the phone. So glad we’re not sharing airspace right now.

Got a couple also, thanks.

DeKalb County, GA, one of the three main Atlanta-area counties, has declared a state of emergency. It’s basically a soft shelter in place. It’s voluntary, but curfew guidelines and what-not are given.

One interesting thing is that all front-line employees like police, fire, roads, 911, senior services, etc., whose jobs aren’t possible to do from home are getting regular salary plus 50% admin pay plus 50% comp time. I’m not sure what all that means, but that’s nice.

This is no time to be taking away peoples’ jobs.

The widespread consequences haven’t even started and captain dumb fuck is already calling for everyone to go back to work.

Hes going to get so many people killed.

Average age of death in Italy is 78.5, so you can count on that being the result of limited testing.

Boris now on if you want to see the WH briefing a few hours early

Boris actually telling people to stay home, so no spoilers from Trump press conference

I put it in Trump thread on purpose since there seems to be a concerted right wing message today.

Thanks for copying it over I should have cross posted.

Bottom line- not surprising at all. I’ve seen anecdotal quotes that similar is happening elsewhere. Especially when people start moving around.

Need this rapid tests so we can minimize infected people out in public or traveling to different areas. (Test probably will miss folks in the very early stages).

UK restrictions for at least three weeks

“No prime minister wants to enact measures like this,” says Mr Johnson.

"I know the damage that this disruption is doing and will do to people’s lives, to their businesses and to their jobs.

“And that’s why we have produced a huge and unprecedented programme of support both for workers and for business.”

He adds: "And I can assure you that we will keep these restrictions under constant review. We will look again in three weeks and relax them if the evidence shows we are able to.

“But at present there are just no easy options. The way ahead is hard, and it is still true that many lives will sadly be lost.”

From tonight, people will be allowed to leave their homes for:

  • shopping for basic necessities, as infrequently as possible
  • one form of exercise a day - for example a run, walk, or cycle, alone or with members of their household;
  • any medical need, to provide care or to help a vulnerable person;
  • travelling to and from work, but only where it is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home

Indiana is going to a soft lockdown: daycare, churches and professional services will stay open.

Well Boris looks like 10 years older than the last time I saw him. So that’s a good sign.

All Trump has to say is something like “Listen, the better we adhere to staying home now, the sooner we can all go back to normal life again. The worse we adhere to staying home, the longer this will drag out.” Why is that so fucking hard?

Also he wouldn’t use the word adhere.
