SARS-CoV-2: Electric Superflu

Man, I’m pretty cynical but even I did not think “refusing to direct private sector companies to stop price gouging in a nationwide health emergency” was in Trumps range.

He’s going to claim this NY Post approved drug has solved everything and try to send people back to work in a week.

Maybe in America, but everybody’s taking it seriously here.

Tesco Express marts have lines every 2 meters to make sure that everybody in line practices social distancing while waiting…and people are actually obeying it (there’s a store manager making sure that’s the case). Everybody’s wearing a mask. No cough, no sneezes, no sniffles heard. It even looked like cars were practicing social distancing.

Seems that the Czech Republic has reached its approximate capacity for how many tests can be processed in a day which is 2000 ± 200. Given that the new tests being used show results in 30 minutes (previous tests took 5 to 6 hours), I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a backlog of them. It’s likely that the number of new cases per day will range from 110 to 150 until more testing facilities can be built.

My friend (mid 20’s female) probably has it. She has all the symptoms, talked to a doctor over the phone and she doesn’t have to come in unless it gets worse. She’s been working from home for about 3 weeks but about a week and a half ago she went to another friends place with 2 other people and all of them are sick now. She’s been self quarantined for about 5 days now and doing better the last 2 days. She almost definitely won’t be tested for it

I knew this was going to happen but I’m shocked it has happened so quickly

I’ve asked some docs why we are prioritizing testing only those who need hospitalization when it doesn’t really change our treatment plan. The answer is we have to know who we can take out of isolation to preserve equipment. The only people who give a damn who is positive are docs administering drug trials. So if your wondering why we can’t afford to test and trace it comes back to a lack of supplies in the hospitals.

Even Cuomo is saying we need to get back to work when nothing has really shut down in the first place

Do you really need all that loo roll?

Panic-bought toilet roll? Well, there’s now a stool-themed tool that shows you exactly how excessive you’ve been.

Dmytro Spilka, from London, developed the Coronavirus Poop Calculator - or the Poop Tool for short - when he saw people clearing supermarket shelves of loo roll. Often, this had led to empty shelves for those who really need it.

“The main purpose of the tool is to help people realise that they don’t actually need that much toilet paper to survive the quarantine, thereby allowing others - more vulnerable people - to shop normally,” he told the BBC.

You can try the Poop Tool out here.

If any countries are going to decide to carry on life as normal because a shutdown’s worse than the virus it’ll be Russia and the US. Britain considered it and pulled back from the precipice, thank god.

My immediate family is 4 out of 4 for having jobs shutdown. Actually my wife has 2 jobs shutdown, so it’s 5 for 4.

lol wtf, NY state has over 20k cases now. Feels like it’s going to get bad there really soon

There are at least 20,875 confirmed cases in New York state - making up almost 6% of cases worldwide

Anyone know how many tests New York has done?

So far, New York has tested more than 78,000 people, Mr Cuomo said - more testing per capita than South Korea, which has been heralded for its efficient response. Mr Cuomo failed to add SK’s heroic effort on trace and track…and immediate quarantine of all effects individuals and any contacts over the previous 7 day period, government tracking apps etc etc

Still above a 20% positive rate. Washington is down to a 6% positive rate. I have no clue why there is such a big disparity. They are testing @ about the same per capita rate.

Italy has had their cases/deaths go down two days in a row. A good sign that they have possibly peaked there. Also shows that lockdown does help. The fact we aren’t doing that in the US is going to kill a lot of people.

In NYC, at least, the shutdown is having big effects. Millions of white collar workers are working from home, and so aren’t cramming into public transit and office towers everyday.

A smaller percentage of the population has bugged out of the city. This includes the weekend-house set but also a lot of recent college grads who have temporarily removed to their home towns.

Only explanation is a much larger portion of the population has it here. Makes sense because New York’s population centers are much denser than Washington’s and it had longer to spread here before any countermeasures were taken.
