We have two AM sports talk stations and one is affiliated with Fox Sports. It’s somewhat toned down but Fox Sports is basically Fox News except sports. Cowturd has a nonstop parade of clowns like this and Dr Drew on his show day in and day out. It’s been worse this week because there are few sports to talk about. The only redeeming thing about our affiliate here is that Cowturd is the only national guy on, the rest are all locals, except on weekends.
Florida has had spring break and bike week in the past couple weeks and we are full of old Trumpkins who haven’t taken this seriously at all. This is going to be armageddon.

Does this mean me? I kinda don’t want to work tomorrow, but it’s stupid if it does mean me. If I work, I will drive alone to a large property where I will work alone. I will be more isolated if I work than if I don’t.
So I finally got my mom to watch Contagion. Overall, she thinks it’s pretty great and mostly the science is spot-on. She’s still under self-quarantine, but doing quite well.
Previously I’ve mentioned the scene where the science dudes saw open Gwyneth Paltrow’s brain and are shocked at what they see. This has confused me, because respiratory viruses just don’t do that much to your brain. She pointed out that the movie does actually explain this: a conceit of the story is that the virus is a mashup of SARS and some obscure bat virus that causes brain inflammation (after some googling, the virus in question is Nipah virus). So this scene wouldn’t happen with SARS or corona in real life, but the movie did do its homework.
Also, in the famous scene where the scientist goes to the whiteboard to talk about R0 values, she compares the R0 of this new virus to flu and smallpox and polio. This makes no sense at all, since polio is spread in an entirely different way and at a much, much slower speed. Comparing the raw R0 of polio and a respiratory virus is a confusing and misleading thing to do in this context.
Also, she had some quibble that Matt Damon wasn’t really immune to the virus, he was simply resistant to it. I couldn’t entirely understand the difference between these two things, they seem like the same thing to me.

In light of all the conspiracy theories floating about now about coroanvirus and Chinese bio-weapons, the “You don’t have to weaponize bird flu, the birds are doing that already” line from the Contagion movie is some A+ dialog writing. One one of the most underrated lines in movie history.
Some of y’all think the Chinese are making coronavirus bioterror weapons in secret government labs. Nah man, it’s just the pangolins doing that.

im pretty spooked about las vegas. 1700 people tested with 2 million residents of vegas metro area. confirmed cases at 3 different casinos. another confirmed case is an air traffic controller. how is it not just all over here if its this contagious

oh yeah it’s a 3-5 day wait for results. Apparently it’s more important for Hanks (4hrs) and Dutton (24hrs) to get their results than a health care worker who has interacted closely with lots of people.
