Rolling Stones aka the GOAT Tourney Thread

5 days for these groups, i’ll probably stagger each group 3 days or something though

edit: man i love Lets Spend the Night Together

19th Nervous Breakdown is a tremendously underrated song

I realize JJF is an iconic Stones song, but No Expectations is a legitimately great country song. And not even their best country song!

agreed its good but shame its got that matchup

Start Me up gotta be most vulnerable 2 seed although Beast of Burden can’t be far behind

damn putting Exile tracks against each other is gonna make this tough

How is Undercover of the Night losing to Start Me Up? Seems incomprehensible to me.

undercover is a solid track man and start me up is def vulnerable as 2 seed as i said above but its still Start Me Up imo

Childhood living is easy to do. lol Richards mouthing the lyrics. How does Jagger enunciate ‘Tears’ like he does?

I guess it’s all subjective and personal tastes, but I think Start Me Up is one of their worst popular songs and Undercover is fantastic. To see it losing 3-1 to SMU baffles me.

Most of the votes I can kind of make sense of, even if I disagree. I’m just surprised by this one because I assumed that everybody knew SMU is a shitty song combined with the absolute thrashing (3-1) it’s putting on Undercover.

I’m not crazy about either of those two. I voted for SMU because it’s less contrived than the fake-politics of Undercover.

It’ll bother me a lot more if the understated magnificence of Sway, the affecting Sweet Virginia or exuberant Rocks Off go out so early.

I can’t think of a better side of vinyl than the first side of EoMS, which opens with Rocks Off.

This was the hardest choice for me from this round.

My first thought was that PiB is the early favourite for this whole thing. It ticks all of the boxes people like, even the depression box that’s so relevant now and the exotic Eastern influence box that saw Kashmir home in the Zep tourney.

Also having the balls and imagination to write a pop song about depression that’s not the usual “My girl left me and I feel blue” is brilliant - as was the scope of Street Fighting Man.

It won’t be my choice for #1, but I have a feeling Sympathy For The Devil probably takes this down.

I haven’t thought too much about it but PiB won’t be my #1 for sure and would be kinda surprised if it wins.

Yeah PiB won’t be mine either and I would also be surprised if it wins.
