RFC: Remove Riverman as a mod

One last thing

Bill Haywood came out of retirement. Not posting for 4 months.

Immediately just starts posting terribly for hours

It was a justifiable time out

full disclosure, i reported BHā€™s third post with the same link he literally just posted 10 minutes prior, like he was literally just resetting the conversation back to the OP.

i thought a timeout was justified, though iā€™d probably leave the posts in the thread, with a message it was a timeout.

RM may yet be a sucky mod, but he was not tyranical in this instance.

I literally have no idea who you are.

Wow. I see the comedy portion of the thread has begun. Anybody who thinks Keed was ā€œdoing a really good jobā€ as mod cannot be taken seriously on this matter.

I donā€™t think we should be quick to ban people and donā€™t think we should be quick to remove people as mods. Give them a chance to respond to feedback and improve.

Anyone who thinks Riverman is doing a great job as mod but thinks Keeed had to go doesnā€™t have any particularly objective criteria for judging moderators; theyā€™ve simply picked a side.

And seriously fuck off for playing into this absurd narrative that Iā€™ve ā€œpicked a sideā€. You know better.

Just chiming in here to say that I agree 100% with silencing over banning. Iā€™ll be sure to do this going forward as I see no downside. Thanks for the suggestion.

Since this forumā€™s inception, I have supported 100% of the mods on this site. I went through creating a new system of mod rotation for the forum to help better the forum. But I raise concerns one time that a mod is moderating the forum in a negative manner for the community and driving posters off and Iā€™m just an unobjective participant whose chosen a side?

If anything, my history here should give more credibility to the fact that Iā€™m raising red flags on this, and should maybe give pause that it is those who support such a negative mod who have chosen a side at the expense of the community.

yes, iā€™ve picked a trigger-happy accountant from SC who hasnā€™t been a tyrant over a mod who decided it would be great to disseminate a bloviating russia policy professor who has apparently been shifting the blame since the '14 invasion, and a couple of weeks ahead of an invasion that *checks notes a neolib administration warned us about .

Referencing your own authority as proof of sincerity and reasonableness?

BRAVO!

The JonnyA thing seems like a shit job
The BH thing was a great job.

Snap banning idiocy and snap banning being a shithead saves everyone a lot of time and effort and arguing. We should be beyond that stuff as a group.

Spirit of good decorum, not letter of the law. The latter leads to stupid ass nittery. That collateral damage from that is a temp ban for people who are not me is a risk Iā€™m willing to take.

So when accused of being biased and just choosing a side, I shouldnā€™t defend myself by referencing my history of being impartial and not choosing a side here? Got it!

Donā€™t really have an opinion on removing RM but I support just having more mods so they can have a dialogue before making decisions because it did seem like RM had no one to consult as catfacemeowners isnā€™t here that often. I think the majority of the site, if a mod alongisde RM, would have talked him down from some of his actions.

P.S. lmao at banning for the forum malcontents

What if we make everyone a mod?
