Kamala attacking Trump personally would probably be a huge mistake, despite all the cheers it would get from people that are already going to vote for her
I can’t tell who is serious so maybe some of this is whooshing over my head but calling him stupid and a rapist, while true, will absolutely not help her.

There’s no way to debate someone with no principles. There can be no “gotcha” moment with trump because nothing he says or does really matters to him or any of his supporters.
“You’re not pro law and order, you’re a criminal president”, does nothing. His definition of law and order is brutalizing his enemies, it has nothing to do with rules written in a law book. His definition of a criminal president is a nonwhite president. None of his supporters ever cared about law and order and classified emails, it’s literally just empty words they parrot to get what they want
Anything negative you can say about him, he’s already spun an alternate definition of and 70 million americans have already bought in whole hog.
He’s been anointed as the patron saint of capitalism. Literally “catholics” are saying ‘fuck the pope I’m following this hateful doofus, the pope is the one who is wrong.’

Calling him a rapist is not going to be appealing for 98% of voters, and is absolutely going to open the door to the insane conversation of “Well, actually, he wasn’t found guilty of rape. He was found liable for sexual assault in a civil trial, and the jury in that civil trial found him not liable for rape.” Trump has already sued about this and I really don’t think there’s any upside in using that word at all in the debate.
I basically agree with this. She should just go over how she’s going to improve things.
There will be opportunities to throw in a couple “insults” which are in reality just accurate depictions of his past behavior/convictions etc. She should take those opportunities if they arise naturally, but she shouldn’t just call him a rapist left and right.

well surely nobody is hiring me for political consultation, but I’d go with “fuck another porn star you elderly rapist” until i was blue in the face. But sure, go with the things that the dems will (not) do for regular folk. none of it matters anyhow.
Counterpoint—dems are beat down, we’ve had to vote for Sleepy Joe and Hilary with Tim Kaine and Kerry. We want someone with fire in the belly—a fighter. I’d love to see her go after him. But, you could be right that that is not the best strategy.

If nothing you can say about Trump matters, what’s the game plan if you have to go through the motions of a debate? Just ignore him? It’s going to look weird standing next to a bucket of shit while you pretend he’s not there.
I’m sure she’ll try to appeal to centrists and traditional Republican voters and say she wants more cops and more border patrol.

Not every decision, the only part of the 2020 debates I remember is Biden’s “will you shut up, man?” so anecdotally things like that are awesome.

I think she should stop after his first rant and just calmly say “people, do you really want another 4 years of this crap?” then say something about abortion
