I’m so old that my original 2+2 account had an OG registration date of 9/3/2002. User #208.
They have a huge expensive billboard on 35 in a massively high traffic area in Williamson county Texas. It is not a good sign for them when the Trump campaign feels the need to buy that billboard. My wife didn’t believe Texas was really in play until she saw the billboard lol. She actually started crying and said we might actually win this. It was kind of sweet actually. (The lag on telling this was me asking her if I could talk about it lol)
I don’t want to hear any more whining from our side about the Biden campaign spending money in stupid places. They already bought everything they could buy in PA probably… and it’s working, the Trump campaign is spending money in Texas instead of PA. They have way less money than us, so that seriously matters. If we could spend a dollar to take a dollar from them I’d ask what their stack size was.
A comprehensive 2+2 “where are they now” would be fascinating. There were so many incredibly smart and funny people there.
The raw success achieved by former participants in the poker boom always make me happy. Even if some of us are degenerate gamblers who suck badly, many of us are kind of awesome. It feels good to be part of something that generated good results if that makes sense.
Genuinely there have been some insane opportunities available in the last 20 years for smart, middle class white dudes. They’re stereotypical, but I know just a ton of people who made heaps on poker/bitcoin and think stuff like floyd/mcgregor/this election aren’t far off in the money making opportunities.
I have multiple friends who dropped out of college in their 20s and were millionaires before 30. Thats nuts!

Hey now a lot of us moved up to middle class through all of this lol.
As Nate just pointed out on the Ezra Klein podcast, the polls would be wrong if Trump DIDN’T win 1 out of 5 times. Just so happened to luckbox the first chamber.
Is Politico just RCP or The Hill now? Every article in my news feed from Politico for the past two or three months is doom and gloom for us. Like this:
i think the people who ‘got rich’ off poker is much lower than it appears, but it did kinda funneled a lot of poker players into opportunities in crypto simply by necessity.
Yeah almost nobody got rich. We did develop skills that worked other places though. Poker was seriously fantastic training for career stuff. We got to make an astronomical number of decisions for money over a very short time period. It would have been hard to learn absolutely nothing from it.
Financially, for me anyway, it was a small upgrade over working at a call center. I started with a 100 dollar deposit and grinded my way up through the micros… kept having my bankroll decimated by real world stuff for years… I was poor when I arrived (2009 unfortunately) and I was barely not poor when it ended.
But then I found easier games than poker out in the real world and slid into that like a hot knife through butter. With a few bumpy exceptions everything has been massively easier since poker than it was before. Everything.
A lot got rich and blew it too, some people like me did fine but nittied it up too much, I really thought about putting it all in bitcoin but my lack of confidence to pull triggers I need to as my weakness sometimes hit me and listening to *no you should diversify, it’s too risky" yeah I’m not a millionaire+ now and I was right ****.
Don’t feel bad about it. You only need an exponential score like that to hit once and there will 100% guaranteed be more. Just look at what we’ve seen since 2003 in terms of gold rushes. If you have any of your poker money left you beat the spread.
I have a feeling climate mitigation stuff is going to be really really good sometime in the next decade. That’s a good one to be thinking about profiting from. Yeah it’s a good cause, but there’s going to be trillions of dollars spent. That’s a massive geyser of money that’s going to spew for the rest of our lives.
zeejustin got rich.
i mean not gonna turn into too much boring stories, but for the entire 2017 i played in a high stakes live private game where one guy literally yelled at me after every pot to invest in bitcoin. every single day for a year. i was like ‘yeah im gonna read up on that’.
I’m not sure grinding it out on 100NL FTP 6m in the mid 2000s was really that wonderful but I’m about 95% sure I would have been way more miserable without it.
Pretty much same, except this was my only losing year ever.
Don’t really regret not getting in on btc.
lol2017.
I knew bitcoin was going to crash when my personal trainer told me to buy bitcoin. It took six more months obviously.
