Yup. Tonight we saw a video of a reporter actually trying to help the police apprehend looters, and how much of complete dolts these guys were—they started arresting the victims.

Ok. I didn’t think the technical cause of death (heart failure or whatever) was going to be critical in building the case. But maybe it’s going to be a point of contention at trial.

There’s been a week of mass arrests. IDK what they’re doing with those folk, but if they haven’t warehoused them, it’s pretty common to make not getting arrested again a condition of pretrial release. See: Miami Plan.

Alright, it’s hard to imagine I stay on the sidelines all week unless things fizzle out. I was shaking with rage three times today today and cried in sadness twice. My plan is to go in the daytime when it’s mostly peaceful and just stand/chant with crowds, but as we all know, those are turning into good opportunities for the police to get their jollies off with tear gas and rubber bullets lately.
So to those of you who have been protesting for longer than me and/or actually been in some shit (I’ve only been to 100% peaceful stuff that was sanctioned for authority), what advice do you have? What would you bring that isn’t on the typical lists? Would you take your phone in Airplane mode, or not take it at all? Why or why not? If you take it, wipe pretty much everything off of it, I guess? Old texts, pictures that are not things you’d want seen, etc?
What are some things I should be keeping an eye on or looking for to avoid getting cornered or boxed in, or some signs that I’m about to get shot at?
Here’s what I’ve got right now:
Wear jeans, have long sleeves and/or a hoodie available if things start to get testy - plain colors
Sneakers I can run in (don’t have steel toe boots)
Goggles (All I have is swimming goggles, anyone got a link to good goggles/mask that would be shatter-proof if I took a rubber bullet to the eye?)
Gloves (Latex to remind me not to touch my face, leather to throw tear gas away)
N95 style mask, neck cover I can pull up to cover more of my face, scarf as backup for neck cover in case I get tear gassed so I can switch
Hat? Not sure on this one, want to be able to use my white privilege to get between good guys and bad guys and diffuse situations if it’s possible, but also want to have privacy and not get targeted for anything based on pictures and doxxing.
Snacks
Drinking Water
Water & Baking Soda solution for tear gas
Cash (maybe $40 or so?), ID, health insurance card
Washcloth (I assume this is for wiping off the powder from tear gas?)
Ear plugs
Bandages (what other first aid items are helpful?)
Sign
NLG Phone # Written on My Arm, Maybe a Couple Friends’ Numbers too?
Cell Phone - Maybe, and if so backup battery
Pepper Spray? Could be useful if some white mob comes after us, but also could get me in more trouble if arrested? (Even if it’s legal.)

Yeah. I don’t know. Seems clear that he was kneeling on the guy’s neck for the last five minutes of his life and first three minutes of his death. So the technical cause of death seems incidental to me, because it seems clear the cop caused the death, but I agree its likely to come up as an issue.
What do you mean, I read the thread - there were like 3 tweets. It was peaceful for a while, then looters showed up, then it got ugly.
Brian Williams went right to work shilling for the cops by calling it a firework from protesters.
