Poker Hands and Strategy

I’ve been pretty deep in poker culture for 20 years and never heard the term sun running. Is this new?

Yeah this is what I meant; 2458 is a monster but it’s an implied odds monster. Even if you’re like me and are also going nuts on a 3 8 Q flop and what not, that still requires hitting the flop just so.

It does… Lol.

I don’t think it’s that new and I thought it was a fairly common term, but maybe not.

I think it’s fairly common, running like the sun etc, aka running hot

Gkers be a good abbreviation for it? If so that’s hilarious that it may be the same guy.

Kinda random but do any of y’all do any DB analysis or coaching/know anyone that does? The c4p stables on 22 intimidate me for some reason.

I’m rolled for up to 100nl but I guess I would prefer some kind of 3-6 month CFP contract so my coach would be more invested. Currently beating 100nl on bros over small sample. Break even at 25zoom over larger sample. Played ~1 mil hands lifetime but hadn’t played seriously for almost a decade prior to this year.

22 pg&c thread with some more background. Sorry for linking there but I just can’t give the place up completely. We back after a loooooong break - Poker Blogs and Goals -- Two Plus Two Poker Forums

I feel like I’m very close to a breakthrough. Could be delusion, idk.

ers?

Lol, yeah same guy.

Thomas Pinnock seems legit, judging by his material and that he apparently coaches some really good players. I personally haven’t been coached by him, but he’s someone I’d consider if I wanted coaching or DB analysis. Here is his pricing (in BTC) - https://www.zenithpoker.com/shop/

First check out his free video course, preflop charts and youtube channel.

New scandal! He created a “Dream Machine” - ooooh sounds high tech! What is it? How does it work? Is he a super genius Deux Ex Machina guy?

Well it’s two computers - one with a solver running and one to play poker.

[Price is Right Horn]

Apparently this is technically illegal because it’s “software”. But it makes you wonder - is Excel software? Don’t solvers take forever to crunch numbers anyway? Seems like you only need pre-made tables for this.

What if you just write every spot down and have a giant card catalog next to your desk?

This is not cheating but is destroying poker.

It is because he’s using a real time solver.

I understand the argument. I just think it’s dumb. I do however think all these solvers are a massively destructive force for poker.

I’m part of the old school that said HUDs were the death of online poker when they first came out. All of this shit is just the evolution that’s happened from them. Like in many things, those who have had the most success in online poker are likely those who have cheated the best.

HUDs are also terrible imo.

Right, either both should be defined as cheating or neither should. Definitely both, because the computer isn’t the reason it’s cheating. Unfortunately, it might be impossible to prevent/catch this kind of cheating. Players can eventually detect it if the cheater is blatant about it (ie balancing several bet sizes per spot), but not everyone will be blatant. High-stakes and mid-stakes online poker are in trouble.

I don’t get the remark about never playing shortstack though (in the 2p2 post). Doesn’t that describe virtually all good online players? Most regs auto-topoff and the rest quickly topoff manually. Shadier would be if the suspect always hit-and-ran after doubling up, or if they only played shortstack since that’s easier to solve. (Neither is shady in a vacuum, of course.)

I like the idea of 15 seconds to act, no time bank. Make online poker like speed chess.

That or have a webcam showing your whole room, with you playing, that the site can check at any time.

The webcam idea might work. You’d probably need a rule against earpieces/headphones so that people can’t have someone whispering the solutions. This means you’d need a rule against anything covering up your ears. Additionally, the webcam must include audio so that you can’t get your friend to shout the answers through the wall. But then cheaters will strap a device to their leg allowing someone to send them coded vibrations/shocks such as “one vibration for fold, two for check or call, 3 for bet or raise”. So the final rule will be that everyone must play fully naked on a see-through chair and undergo a colonoscopy to join a table.

Then they’ll start playing live poker wearing hidden cameras that stream the cards to their accomplice.

Not sure if a fast timer would thwart cheaters. That’s the point of using pre-computed solutions.

Now I wonder if it’s possible to design a solver around blitz poker. In Chess, one millisecond of Stockfish analysis is probably better than unlimited eeaww analysis. Similarly, maybe a solver can be designed to produce good guesses within 10 seconds and show the best guesses in real-time along with their EV.

At one day in the future I will realize I wasnt bad at poker I just was the only one who didnt cheat.
Cant say I dont feel a little bit of schadenfreude about some of the names that seem to be involved.

Played 3 tournaments on Bovada yesterday. I busted KK<AA all in pre in all 3. Not sure the odds on that, but I’m gonna prefer not to do that again for awhile. LOLAMENTS
