Damn NYT wrote a hit piece of Chapo Trap House

I bet they couldn’t be happier. I’m sure this will be their entire next episode.

I also like how they couldn’t name Cumtown in the article

True anon people were on the recent Chapo live show and holy hell they both have annoying voices

I couldn’t finish it.

Caught up on the last few episodes and Matt totally stole my “everybody beats trump or everybody doesn’t” analysis.

The Happiness Lab is great.

Laurie Santos is offering her course for free (most popular class at Yale), highly recommend.

Love how H. Jon Benjamin never changes his voice regardless of what character or person he plays.

Just stopped in to +1 blowback. Amazing how much of the dirt has already been rinsed down the memory hole

So is this podcast not free? I’ve reached my cap of 1 paid podcast already.

Stitcher is two weeks free I believe, and Brendan said all of the episodes will be released for free in like six months

I’ve been trying to sign up to Stitcher Premium to get that, keeps telling me ‘Something went wrong’. I’d contact Support, but I’m not trying that hard to pay for a limited-run podcast. Is it available anywhere else? I assumed it would be pirated on r/cth since it’s extremely Chapo-adjacent, but I don’t see it (and can’t ask there since I unsubscribed in a huff ~6 months ago).

So basically I’m asking if it’s available anywhere on the old five-finger discount, or must I keep trying to give Stitcher my money?

I’ve been impressed with Pocketcasts. Works online and via app and syncs your spot.

I think Blowback is Stitcher-exclusive, though.

Amber ruins Chapo. She is awful.

Every other member of the CTH core group has a role that they kind of fell into. Matt is the rage and the fury. CTH doesn’t exist without him. Will tries to keep things on track and moving. Felix cracks jokes while Vergil makes insight observations from time to time and does well when interviewing guests one-on-one.

Amber seems like the token woman that Chapo added to stave off accusations from minority groups of being preachy or part of the patriarchy or some shit like that. My opinion of her is completely neutral in that I don’t recall anything she said that was memorable. She doesn’t add anything the group didn’t have before but she also doesn’t detract from them either. The podcast wouldn’t lose a step if she were to leave without warning. On the other hand, take away Matt and the group would never be the same.

Amber is the token tankie. She’s also there for the reasons SUB mentioned. Meh

The view of Amber sucking is pretty common in the CTH subreddit. There are multiple threads dedicated to it. That’s a search link that’ll show the threads. Might need to have an account to see it. Not sure.

I cringed at the Italy being poor take given that it’s the 4th largest economy in the EU and it’s about average in GDP per capita by PPP for the EU.

Honestly, I’m a bit more forgiving of stuff like that in hindsight since I’d probably make some mistakes if I was in her position. It still got to me when I first heard it given how wrong it was though.

So, I can see why people would like or not like her. I’m neutral.

I really only listen for Matt. If he just did his own thing I would instantly subscribe to that and never give CTH another thought.

My (probably not) interesting stitcher premium story: I signed up for it going on two years ago now. I did it for one podcast, Gilbert Gottfried’s, because they went for the cash grab and started posting all their “premium” stuff on there which you could only access through Stitcher. I’d heard ok things about the service and really like that podcast plus my car has the Stitcher app built into its computer, so I decided to give it a shot. It was like $35 a year at the time. I think it’s still the same.

Anyway, I was fairly happy with it, it aggregates all the stuff I like into one place and it’s easy to use. Then about six-ish months ago, Gilbert & Frank decided they were getting fucked by Stitcher so they decided to jump ship. They gave basically no warning this was coming. One week everything was normal, the next they’re getting a new producer and distributor and leaving the Stitcher platform and now you’ve gotta sign up at Patreon to get access to the “premium” content. I wouldn’t have minded all that much except I paid for a goddamned year of Stitcher premium for that very podcast. So now I’ve paid for Stitcher, but unless I also shell out more on Patreon I still have to hear ads and I am blocked from the very content I was told I was paying for when I signed up! Wtf

Of course none of this is Stitcher’s fault, probably. My sub is set to renew again next month and I may keep it idk yet. What I am not doing is giving Gilbert another penny. I guess the moral of the story is: if you like podcasts generally, I can recommend Stitcher no problem. But I would discourage subbing to it solely for one podcast, because if you don’t like the service and something changes with your favorite podcast, you’re stuck with it.
