So I talked to my friend and he was chiller than before. Kind of tried to imply that not the decision to not get permits was on me, but did not hit that very hard. Basically said that he would really like to stay out of it, but if that becomes impossible he’ll be ready to help resolve it.
So I call the guy from the planning department. He asks me my story, I tell him. He’s like hmmmm, that doesn’t sound right, let’s take a look at your file. Brings up the “case” on his computer and is like “I’m looking at a picture of massive concrete steps with a retaining wall down to the street.” That’s my neighbors’ house two doors down. I tell him that, and he’s like “well this just looks like a mistake then.”
So he’s confirming that with the inspector. Hopefully this is much ado about nothing.
Oh shiiit.how much of our lives do we spend stressing about things that end up being nothing? I don’t even know you and I was stressed when reading about your situation, mostly because of the whole aspect that telling the truth gets the friend in trouble

Sounds real scientific and I’m sure they accounted for any sampling bias. This GOBankingRates site was making it into my google news feed for a little bit and all their articles were trash, so I blocked suggestions from them.
Has anyone given any thought about the best places to buy land as investment in preparation for global warming?
Buying stuff off grid is obviously a bigger gamble. But something like this connected to a main road where there are other houses around, 48 acres in Maine for $135,000.
I feel like we are definitely going to have a land buying craze/bubble at some point down the road.
I really enjoy following some folks called New York Land Quest … I bought my place thru them. They do a lot of bare land sales, cabins, off grid spots. I think upstate is a good spot if you’re concerned about climate change. Tons of farms, moderate temps in summer, etc. Anyway the land quest folks post lots of great cabin porn*, large acre spots.
*not Instagram #cabinporn but real shit for sub 100k. … you want water and elevation, at least imo (my land has neither but hey maybe the next buy)
