This is a pretty accurate perspective. Physics is fundamentally a mathematical description of reality, but the interpretation of what all that means is will into the philosophical rather than the physical. I would be cautious about saying that light is neither particle nor wave, however. Light is most definitely a ā€œparticleā€ and a ā€œwave,ā€ because particles and waves are mathematical constructs that make extremely robust and detailed predictions about how light should behave that have held up to experiment time and time again. Light in and of itself doesnā€™t care about our math or our descriptions, and there may yet be some further description we need to explain some phenomenon that hasnā€™t yet been observed and that isnā€™t explained by our current model. But! Any model to explain whatever that might be is also going to have to explain everything else, including the particle/wave duality in the current model. So, itā€™s reasonable to punt and think that light is light and models are models, and that light isnā€™t a model even if the model does a great job of telling us what light will do under a whole host of circumstances. Particularly when you get into some of the weirder parts of quantum mechanics, this is about the best you can do.

I got the original took of me around 1998 at the football and was so sad for a while after it, went to the game as usual with my keys and Swiss on my chain in my pocket not thinking that it would be seen as an offensive weapon.

Fortunately I have a good reason for carrying a Swiss army knife & also need it for some parts of my job and he didnā€™t take any action apart from a confiscation.

Damā€¦ That was a big expense for me during those days lol.

Russia is too busy having an awesome Psychobilly scene to bother with metal.

Batmobile is actually Dutch but whatever.

worst pie chart ever?

Soccer ball chart.

I guess thatā€™s slightly better than the more-common ā€œtree mapā€ which is basically this but in box form, but still not great.

Looks fine to me as long as areas match the amount spent. Hard to represent this kind of thing, and much better than a pie chart.

I donā€™t see the problem if everything is to scale.

Yea it might be the best of mediocre options. My issue is the varying shapes. I donā€™t like when tree maps have rectangles of different relative dimensions because itā€™s tough for the human mind to compare something long and skinny with something, well, square.

I think clustered bubble charts are underrated. Each shape being a circle makes it easier to quickly compare different items. Can make it a pain in the ass to label everything, though, especially when youā€™ve got a bunch of little bubbles (which youā€™d probably have with this one).

In Zoom meeting mishaps

The incident occurred during a video meeting in early February with about a dozen staff members of the Believer and BMI, according to three sources who were in the meeting.

According to Ira Silverberg, a literary agent and editor who is acting as Shenkā€™s advisor, Shenk was soaking in a bathtub with Epsom salts during the meeting to alleviate nerve pain caused by fibromyalgia.

He had chosen a virtual background to mask his location and had worn a mesh shirt. When Shenkā€™s computer battery died, he got up to plug it in, believing the camera was off. But the video kept running. According to Silverberg, Shenk reported the incident immediately.

Sounds like theyā€™re all off some Tarantino movie soundtrack. I like it.

I have no idea who this guy is or what the Believer is (sounds dumb), but this seems like a pretty weak reason to resign. Feel kind of bad for him.

Thatā€™d be the surf guitar which is technically distinct from psychobilly, but the lines often get blurry.

Iā€™m just putting it out there that the ether was always real and it is dark matter. No, I will not be taking questions at this time.

Yeah um, what am I missing here?

I think the dark matter is probably like the ether: a crutch weā€™ve invented to explain physics we donā€™t yet understand rather than something that actually exists.

The ether is hardly the only example of this. Physicists invented a whole new planet between Mercury and the sun to explain an anomaly in Mercuryā€™s motion that was eventually explained by gravitational lensing.

I think weā€™ve just accepted a shortcut that says if you show your dick on Zoom youā€™re fired.
