**Official** Physicists are freaks and very weird dudes LC Thread

This is a fair point, I think a problem people have is they’re not honest with themselves about what house they will actually “enjoy more”.

People are fucking morons about their houses.

Care to elaborate?

Nothing that hasn’t already been said and backed up with mountains of research about materialism and happiness. People who haven’t already figured it out are unlikely to ever figure it out.

Mostly I see people being smart because solar is awesome, but as I mentioned in the HI thread I’ve done a few kitchens and baths recently. The last kitchen that the owners threw out was really nice. I would have loved to have had it. There was nothing wrong with it.

OK, how about most egregious examples of stupidity that you have personally encountered?

Any of the several couples who ended up getting divorced during the construction of their dream home because the process exposed and deepened all the rifts in their relationships, which is such a super common thing that you’d think people would be more aware of the risks but nope.

I’d like to give an honorable mention to the folks who spent almost a decade building a 10,000 square foot, 1 bedroom weekend home, but they could afford it so that’s more funny than tragic.

Two month grunch but the four cryptics are 90% of the reason I get GAMES. I’ll do the other ones as well but I always go straight for those

Shit, Czechs love Reagan

The US Embassy in Prague’s Facebook page posted a video celebrating him on the anniversary of his death. Every Czech who commented had amazing things to say but as the lone American, I had to rip into him.

I try to avoid politics on Facebook groups but pro-Reagan propaganda from the US government drives me nuts. Reagan was a piece of shit and the world needs to know.

So much of the “productivity” in the country nowadays is rich people wasting money and other people’s time for things that don’t even improve their lives. Yeah it’s nice that a lot of people get jobs, but it’s also immensely wasteful.

If that’s the best you’ve got, I must say I am unimpressed.

First one doesn’t seem so much stupid about the home as it is stupid about the relationship. That could happen even if the they went in with the intention of buliding a Zikzak-approved, platonic ideal home.

Second is just rich people spending money on toys. If you’ve got money to burn, and burning it a certain way floats your boat, we can call that a lot of things, but I’m not sure moronic is the best description. I guess the 10 yrs could be moronic. What took so long?

That’s selfish more than moronic. The people who make those decisions are largely insulated from the consequences. So from their perspective they get all the benefits and they don’t experience any of the pain from the drawbacks.

I looked some stuff up to make these estimates but couldn’t find the exact state CO2/sf, but…the construction of a 10000sf house - just the construction - means a few hundred tons of CO2. The average person in the world generates about 4 tons per year. Those 10k sf house people suck.

Sorry my dog needs the space.

Exactly, thats why I need my inside to feel as spacious as outside.

Sorry I deleted “dogs like it outside”.

I tried adding something like “if not, get a better dog”, but then decided not to insult the tea cup poodle crowd and then just decided to fuck it and delete.

This all makes me mad and I try not to be involved in these projects for rich people and I try to work for less rich people…but then they have no money and my health insurance premium is due. I will do the best I can though short of my family living in the street and up shit creek if someone gets sick.

It’s moronic more than selfish if they’re needlessly fucking up the planet even more for their own offspring.

Selfish still fits better. They’re putting their own interests ahead of their children’s. And if they have no children, selfish fits even better still.
