George R. R. Martin, author of A Song of Ice and Fire, the books on which Game of Thrones is based, has penned a blog post with exciting news for fans!!!1!!11.
For those unaware, the first book of the five existing was released literally a quarter-century ago, in 1996, and fans have been waiting for the next book, The Winds of Winter, for 10 years.

This latest missive:
I wrote hundreds and hundreds of pages of THE WINDS OF WINTER in 2020. The best year Iāve had on WOW since I began it. Why? I donāt know. Maybe the isolation. Or maybe I just got on a roll. Sometimes I do get on a roll.
I need to keep rolling, though. I still have hundreds of more pages to write to bring the novel to a satisfactory conclusion.
So to recap, you swore it would be done by mid-2020, then you had an unreasonably good writing year, the best in this ten-year mission to write a fucking book, and the result is? āStill have hundreds of more pages to writeā.
So, uh, when will it be finished?
I will make no predictions on when I will finish. Every time I do, assholes on the internet take that as a āpromise,ā and then wait eagerly to crucify me when I miss the deadline.

So, āburningā is a bit of an exaggeration, it was just smoking, but Iām going to say this anyway: I literally pulled a guy out of a burning car tonight.
Major accident in an intersection right in front of me. One car was knocked up on its side. Other people and I got out to help. People were worried about the smoking car catching fire. The guy inside couldnāt get the door open. He partially kicked the windshield out, but it wasnāt going. Some guy with a skateboard shattered the passenger window that was up top. Me and another guy pulled him out.
No one was seriously hurt. In the other car there were two women I talked to ā getting to use my Spanish and they didnāt speak English. One woman was crying, but they didnāt have any obvious injuries. Someone else was even there with a fire extinguisher before the police arrived and it wasnāt very long before they got there.

Thatās not him, though. Heās an author. You must respect the creative process!
Real talk though he is a perfectionist. heās torn up nearly-completed 700+ page manuscripts and started over. That kind of obsession and effort for perfection will drive you insane. He also probably feels additional pressure to write a good ending because of how bad the show went. Itās his legacy, he wants to get it right. But this project will outlive him, and eventually theyāll publish his unfinished manuscripts and weāll make of those what we will.
Unless heās a dbag and destroys them george lucas style. Which I would not put past him.
He wrote the series so he could troll readers with plot twists. Heās seeking the perfect ending which will hurt people more than the show.

Not really related but Iāve got two weeks left wearing aligners. My teeth are straight but I think I have arthritis in my fingers from having them in my mouth all the time.

Iāve known for ages the seventh book was never happening, but after this latest update I now doubt we even get TWOW.
Martin is famous for naming unreasonable completion dates and then missing them by years, so I would never take dates he gives seriously in the slightest. Whatās new here is that Iām starting to suspect that heās fully aware heās not finishing the series and is deliberately stringing people along.
