I talked with a friend about the Kamala Harris 60 minutes interview which he watched but I didnât. During that interview she talked about âlived experienceâ and we disagreed what that meant and what it implies.
Does anyone have a good explanation of the term, preferably citable?
The main point of contention was if lived experience can be substituted through other means.
I have added a sentence at the bottom of my post.
Can one gain this knowledge through other means than lived experience? Can one understand these lived experiences through for example empathy and/or an intellectual approach?
Can someone? Probably. On average? Probably not. I think the whole point in the context of politics is that its a good idea to put people in charge of policy where they know what the affected people have been through. Its the difference between putting AOC or a white male boomer in charge of labour policy affecting millenials. Can the white male boomer empathize with underemployed overleveraged millennials? Yes, but I know where Iâd place my bets.
