National Basketball Association - 2025/2026 Season

Jalen Suggs really needs to give up on whatever he’s trying to do here

Which is wild to think about in raw numbers. An SGA supermax buys you Mahomes and Justin Jefferson. I wonder how many sports fans have even heard of SGA?

and based on recent nba ratings they haven’t.

You’re right it’s gotta be a low number especially for a star player, he isn’t marketed, OKC isn’t a high fanbase, etc

worldwide NBA is doing fine though. Might be more known in china than the US.

Watching basketball to avoid that other stuff on tv….3 minutes into the 3rd, both the Knicks and Hawks have used both their challenges successfully. I didn’t realize they then get no more.

While I generally dislike what replay/challenges have done to the pace of sports sometimes, I think a system that exhausts your challenges despite being right on all of them is terrible. Especially in a sport like basketball with 800 possessions in a game so many, many, opportunities for the refs to get it wrong.

I agree, I think. Teams get both correct so infrequently that letting succesful challenges continue would not be that big of a deal.

My only thing is it’s easier to win challenges now they can call proximate fouls.

It sounds like pieces are being moved around to enable a multi-team Jimmy Butler trade.

I would assume this is the Suns loading up to trade for Butler:

This would be moronic by the Bucks:

can’t imagine teams wouldn’t rather have suns 2031 unprotected than 2025 cleveland’s and two other of “the worst of this batch of first rounders” but I guess miami must or they wouldn’t have done it.

isn’t beal is a little better and younger than middleton and it’s just injury risk and he gets paid a lot more money?

or maybe he’s worse according to def, he’s definitely offensively better. The contract is for an extra year as well.

maybe bucks get under some tax line this year somehow that’s more of what they’re thinking

but they probably can’t dump beals contract after this later, not ideal

I think giannis just keeps pressuring the bucks to make some big move. I don’t know they trade for Lillard giving up Jrue and other players that would’ve gotten some regular playing time without him asking for something like that.

He certainly wouldn’t be telling them to trade Middleton. He’s his best friend on the team, they’ve been together for a decade, and they have great on-court chemistry.

Beal makes almost $20 million more than Middleton this year (prorated, of course). Midds has a $34 million player option next year and then is free agent. Beal is under contract for $53 million+ next year, then a $57 million player option. Bucks are stuck above the second apron right now. Don’t know the rules, but I can’t imagine they are making that trade based on money alone, even if they can.

And I don’t think Beal is better than Middleton, especially for the Bucks. Both have had injury problems.

I think the idea is the trade allows the Suns to trade multiple of their own picks for Butler. Before the trade, they had only their 2031 pick to trade, but now they can keep the crap 1st round picks they got, and instead trade some of their own without violating the rule you have to have a 1st every other year.

Suns don’t have their own picks, or at least control they’re involved in possible swaps.

I looked it up and gosh it’s a complicated mess. Basically if they get to keep it, it sucks. if that, idk it’s late I’m not gonna read that and think about it.

edit—the only clear pick they have until 2031 is Denver’s 2026 2nd. That’s one way to do it, save all the money on draft scouting when you have no picks to make.

Wow, just looking now and they really emptied out their draft. Didn’t realize they had traded away every possible pick.

Not sure what this trade does then, I guess maybe give them more flexibility. Looking at their draft picks some obviously complete crap (like where it’s the worst of three teams, including Houston), but maybe some have possible value and this allows them to trade those?

You need to break the pick up into multiple pieces if you have to send draft capital to more than one team.

Also, concern that Bucks won’t be able to leave in time to host Miami in Milwaukee.

That’s going to be contentious. People flipped when mods shut down r/nba during the finals two years ago to support the strike for third party apps. Lots of those nephews still cry about it. I don’t envy the mods who get to deal with the whining.

Three of OKC’s eight losses have been against the mavs all without luka and lively. Pj Washington put up 22-19 and continued his ownership of the Thunder.

The only game the Thunder won was when pj Washington was out.
