on draft night he wasn’t as tall as he is now and was skinny with no outside game
Trading up to get Olynyk put the Celtics in a better position than not trading up. I consider that move a solid single which would have been considered a home run if Giannis didn’t exist. The theory of wanting floor-spreading and passing (Olynyk was a former PG with a growth spurt) up and down your lineup makes a lot of sense. Giannis didn’t seem like he’d have enough shooting to be part of that as a 6’9" wing in the NBA. He did have just enough as a 6’11" PF, especially when paired with a center who was a perimeter thread in Brook Lopez.
