The point of the luxury tax is to avoid doing a hard cap.

They can make it so the playerâs pie is the same size w a hard cap. I am in favor of a hard cap. I rather the lower spending teams having to spend more while the teams on the high end are limited.
That being said I suspect this wonât be a real issue in the upcoming negotiations. I think the owners are floating it out there to get early concessions elsewhere.
