The counterpoint actually helps to prove my point. Lebron is the last #1 pick to be the guy on a championship team.
Thatâs actually insane. Cool fact.
That was only 2 years ago. Not a long drought. And they had two #1 overall picks.
Yeah but itâs an 18 year drought in draft terms. To be fair, Lebron also carried fellow #1s Kyrie and AD to titles.
Luka obviously shouldâve gone #1 but went #3 but yeah the draft is a bit of a crap shoot and development is super important
Warriors got the best development team in my biased opinion and theyâve had a ton of misses. The one hit they had recently was poole and he went super late and everyone thought it was a horrible pick.
Seems like a lot of it is just luck
Aside from the absolute best players it still feels like overall all nba guys are mostly top draft picks. You just gotta be lucky to get the absolute best guys
When I think about best players in the last 20 drafts, we have a #1 Lebron, #2 KD, #7 Steph, and #15 Giannis. So playing devilâs advocate to myself, getting picks in the top half of the 1st round probably does matter. But outside of a generational talent like Lebron, itâs all about who develops best.
ETA: this is still a bit of a change from the way it used to be when you look at the all time greats.
Kareem, Shaq, Duncan, Magic, Hakeem all #1 picks. Russell #2, Jordan #3
If Giannis goes to a number of other teams he might not become Giannis. Same with Kawhi. Put anyone in Orlando, Sacramento etc and just GL.
Man, it sucks that the two faces of the Warriors are one of the most genuine and likeable players in the league with one of the dirtiest and most hateable players in the league. Maybe thatâs why they are so good, as Green does the dirty stuff that Curry wonât (and why they won 2 of the championships as he was happy to call Durant to bail them out).

Imagine just sending Al Horford home.

I read since 1980 no team outside of California or Texas has won a title from
the western conference. That is 7 teams out of I think 13-16 teams. So around half.
The clippers and kings both have not won a title or been to the finals.
The Western Conference has won 22 titles since 1980 with the lakers winning half of those. Then San Antonio 5, golden state 3, houston 2, Dallas 1.
The others are 0-8 in the finals.

Horf and Smart both out? What is this Mickey Mouse bullshit? I was promised a SERIES.
Them being out will make it a series
