National Basketball Association - 2022/23 Season (Part 1)

Clutch 4th by Curry after the whole team played horrible.

Not going to say Memphis is better without Ja but their defense is really MUCH better. During the regular season was a 10 point difference which is like best to last and I think it showed in this game.

Well in the regular season without Ja, Bane averaged like 25 a game. He’s on one leg here and probably should sit out one game to get healthier.

“Historically bad shooting night. Feels like we got traded to the Kings.” lmao god damn Steph

In Presti’s defense - he worked the other genius GM Daryl Morey.

Al Horford for Danny Green, 2021 #34 pick and a top 6 protected 2025 pick (top 4 the following two seasons).

This Dillon Brooks supercut is… something.

Jesus. And Memphis was either leading or tied at every point in that supercut. Take Brooks off the floor and they win by 20.

Wow although it seems like he has been dominating Giannis is shooting 48% TS for the series against the celtics which is absolutely putrid. The Boston defense is so god damn good its scary. Their offense kinda sucks but man thats crazy

Yeah dude has been horrible. One the other hand he makes their defense a LOT better. I’m sure Adams helped too, but last game was a lay up line with the warriors getting legit anything they wanted against this defense. Brooks is their best defender and while the warriors also shot like shit he definitely helped. Warriors struggled on the perimeter and getting into the paint. Coach just needs to lay into him and have him not shoot so much when he is terrible. He could be a defensive specialist type player, but if chucks up that much it completely negates his defensive impact and he’s going to be a bench player real soon or out of the league lol.

Middleton is the difference, imo. He’s the one guy on the Bucks who can create his own shot and hit jumpers with a defender in his lap. Without him, Giannis and Jrue have had to force the offense, leading to massive inefficiency (aside from some spurts where Giannis goes off, like in the 3rd quarter last night).

Middleton takes so much pressure off of Giannis and is such a good bailout guy when the shot clock is dwindling. Giannis has a ton of gravity, but the added gravity of Middleton creates lots of opportunities for the other players. And those other players have been horrible this series. They can’t create their own shots (Grayson once in a while) and when they’re open, they aren’t hitting anything. Bobby Portis was REALLY tentative last night, for some reason.

So now Giannis and Jrue have to go 110% on the defensive end and then try to shoot 30 times. Doesn’t work. Giannis can pull it off for a while, but he just can’t carry the entire load for 48 minutes, especially when his game is all action, intensity, and effort. Jrue has just been bad. There’s quite literally nobody else who can do anything on offense.

It’s actually pretty amazing that it’s 2-2 and was almost 3-1 Bucks.

Yeah its definitely a different series with middleton and Bucks would be decent sized favorites, especially because the Celtics offense is playing horribly. Bucks defense does deserve credit, they were 15th in the league this year but they and Giannis are obviously one of those teams who have a 2nd gear in the playoffs.

I was mostly just surprised. I thought he was dominating this bucks defense for the most part but nah they’re doing an absolutely fantastic job on him aside from game 3

It would help if he didn’t hoist 4-6 three pointers a game, but I think it’s a combination of a) frustration, as he’s the only one contributing on offense, and b) fatigue.

Apparently Chris Paul’s mom reached out about what happened. The kid was really drunk and kept tapping her on the shoulder saying “Happy Mother’s Day”. Obnoxious? Yes. Ban worthy? Yes. Assault?

A local Dallas radio guy told a story about taking his daughter to a Mavs game where cp3s mom was apparently she is quite animated, as is her right.

But perhaps this got blown up a little bit.

Yeah I’m not gonna agree with that. They haven’t looked good this series but that’s like 90% because of the Bucks defense.

It seems there is more to it, as the kid claims he wasn’t the one that touched her, but that it was two random people he invited to share his seats and they touched her. Doesn’t really make sense as why would he invite two guys he just met down to his seats (and how were there extra seats for the two of them). I’m guessing he was harassing her the entire game, drunkenly bragged about it (when going to bathroom?), and then invited the two guys to let them harass her as well (assuming kid not completely lying).

Also, this tweet made me laugh - wtf is a “source familiar with Chris Paul’s tweet.” Doesn’t that describe literally anyone that read the tweet.

Bucks have an odd defense where they commit very strongly to dominating the paint. They will drop their bigs on drives and give up open 3s and open midrange shots but will not allow points in the paint. So Celtics have had a lot of open shots and hadn’t been knocking them down.

I saw a breakdown that all 4 games Celtics have easily won the half court battles, but Bucks are dominating transition points. So turnovers are mostly killing them.

Still think Celtics win in 6 or 7 at worst though. They’re doing an excellent job on Giannis and all they need to do is cut down on the turnovers and knock down open shots and it should be theirs.

How old is the kid?

The Bucks and Celtics have such strong defensive systems that it sometimes feels like the opposing personnel doesn’t matter and we’d be in the same place if Middleton was healthy and Jaylen Brown was out.

Middleton not being able to provide 40 minutes and the Bucks being more tired as this series goes on may matter more than his ability to shoot.
