National Basketball Association - 2022/23 Season (Part 1)

Time to burn that page of the playbook

Welp. Get it done at home, I guess. They availed themselves pretty well for being down 17.

I mean, we can maybe cool the “Jordan Poole is a top 20 player” type takes I’ve seen.

Warriors aren’t great, but without Booker no one in the west is. If they get Utah round 2 that’s an amazing matchup for them again, Memphis a little less but still fine imo.

since when did the nba reseed? isn’t it wolves or grizz

Death line up was crushing until Dray fouled out.

I forgot all about Victor Oladipo.

Thought they did, oops. Too used to NHL I guess.

hype!

Yeah but honestly I was at least as impressed with the mental fortitude of Q3 and late Q2 to keep fighting when down big, up 3-0 on the series, and not using the death lineup. It is pretty easy to get into a mindset of just getting them next time at that point rather than still competing for this time. They played a horrible game in many respects, like Steph’s opening and free throw shooting, lots of foul trouble, etc., but gritting through that and still having a chance, despite having ample room to mail this one in after it looked grim shows a ton of fortitude.

Warriors are currently favorites to title according to most books.

Like even if you think injuries are a huge factor, please don’t be that “everyone is awful except for like one team and only when they’re not being awful” guy.

Denver is good. They won a lot of games. GSW is also good. They also won a lot of games. When two good teams play, one has to win and the other has to lose!

suns might lose this series (and boy would that be an alltimer lol) they don’t have a go to scorer

gotta feed ayton like every play or paul’s gotta take over in game 5

denver isn’t good enough to title with no murray, it’s jokic and some other guys.

Obviously, Injuries do matter, look at phoenix, going from a chance to having to fight just to get out of the opening round.

Twolves are too reckless, Grizz Ja can’t defend anyone maybe the wolves even have a better shot idk

Denver is not good (without murray and mpj). The West was very bad this year, they got to beat up on a lot of bad teams. Being the ~13th best team in the league does not make you “good,” it makes you very mediocre!

The Lakers were the only team this year not to make the play in who were not actively tanking in either conference! You could maybe say the same of the Knicks but they were just as dysfunctional.

The top 4 in the east are good plus Phoenix when healthy and GSW are fine too.

I like how I’m being talked at like some absurd GSW hater when I drove 10 hours from Canada to see them the last time I was able to see a game.

This Suns/Pelicans series might be for real. With Booker out for the rest of the series, the Pelicans have better scoring options overall. Who else besides Ayton and Paul can even put up 20? Their 3rd option is now Mikal Bridges.

I’m jumping on the Pels bandwagon. Their young players are absolutely fearless.

One of my pet peeves when discussing sports is the overuse of negativity. Anytime two teams play, it’s rarely “wow this team played really well” but rather “well they would have lost if their opponent didn’t suck.” I fall into it, myself, constantly. And I think you’ve done a lot of that recently.

The rest is semantics. I think the 13th best team with a positive SRS is a good team. (Whether they have anybody “good” besides Jokic is another story). I think GSW should be praised for stomping them so far instead of qualifying their victories with “well their opponent isn’t good so emoji shrug”

Denver did an amazing job of getting to where they were in a cap league basically getting nothing from two max players.
GSw had about $70 million more in players out there.

That doesn’t make them a good team and this isn’t your kids rec league game, we don’t applaud every good effort once they start making tens of millions, sorry.

I think you are wired differently from the athletes discussing sports on TV and anyone super competitive. Could you imagine Kobe, MJ or any elite athlete being almost swept in the first round then talking about how good their team is? There is nothing wrong with your mentality, but I’m just never going to have it.

No, they would be “we weren’t good enough” end of story.

Espn on insta posted a good MJ reel about trash talk after a loss yesterday

The Pels are also without Zion so feels like an even series. I’d actually say Zion is better than Booker for that one season he was healthy. If he gets healthy I think they’re legit contenders.

Jose Alvarado is so damn fun.

I love Zion but I don’t get why he’s not like, 10 minutes a game healthy?
