Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 1)

My favorite horror movie was watching Play it to the Bone with my mother and pretending not to know what was going on while Lucy Liu was fingered.

Green Room is awesome :+1:

Blue Ruin by the same director is also really good

Poor song choice but I liked the Apocalypse Now call out. Looks pretty good.

I’m really glad they give this to Villaneuve. I absolutely love his stuff, but Blade Runner 2049 bombed. Dune definitely could as well. blade runner was fantastic though.

The Lynch adaptation is on HBOMax. Starting it now.

It must be rough being ugly in Hollywood. #representationmatters

It’s pandering and political theater to make a fundamentally non-aesthetic statement sound defensible as industry accolade, even though a lot of movies that do include or are about women, racial minorities, queer people, disabled people, etc. deserve praise. Like I’m sorry but liberal pieties are not going to make me regret Kubrick.

Again, it’s an overreaction to another overreaction. Any year where minorities do not receive fully 50% representation wrt nominations (deserved or not) earns the hashtag, and the Academy has grown so hypersensitive to it that this was the inevitable outcome. I feel dirty af for coming down on the side of Kirsty Alley (even though her tweet was nonsensical and not at all analogous to the situation) but I’m firmly there. The Oscar has forever been the only award I truly give a fuck about but after this I honestly don’t care anymore, leastwise about Best Picture. Not that it wasn’t wrong 25% of the time anyway but still.

ETA the issue could, and frankly should, be solved by creating a new award/award category, not by re-defining away an existing one.

I can’t find a reason to care about the Oscar stuff since the only movie productions it might affect are ones that are already trying to game an Oscar nomination.

It does matter though. It matters because it affects what you are going to see in future films and who you’re going to see in them.
That award more than anything determines future work for the people involved and fucking it up fucks it up for a whole slew of otherwise deserving actors and crew. ETA this is all mainly because it affects at what & whom producers are willing to throw their money.

Maybe this is a blessing in disguise and it finally breaks the wheel :man_shrugging:

I don’t know how tall sting is, but if he weighs more than 120 here id be floored

You’re talking like 5’6 or under then

I was 128 in high school at 5 10, I was bigger than this dude for sure. Ok google says he’s 5 11. He has to be under 130 here.
