No joke about Dancer in the Dark. It’s one of the few movies I rave about but haven’t been able to watch again.
Yep it’s in my one time list too. So good though.
Ah maybe so, but then I do believe stories of the first people who saw a movie running out of the theater terrified because it was a train or something headed right for them
Ah frick now I have to watch it. Just gotta wait for the right moment.
On another note, I’m recommending “Children Of Men” for a watch party. Highly relevant and essential watching. Even got my deplorable parents to watch. My dad even watched the whole thing and that is amazing considering he only watches like 3 movies, literally. (A Few Good Men, Mississippi Burning,The Natural)
The getaway scene is one of my favorite scenes of all time.
Lol, yeah I totally believe they happened.
Your analogy reminds me of 3D movies at Epcot Center back in the early 80’s. They were so ahead of the game (for a kid from Arkansas at least).
Children of men is fuckin great, getaway scene goat
I think it supplants 1984 as the go to dystopian work of art. It really is a perfect film.
Well let’s put it up. It would be a great group watch. I figure one of these days we should keep a schedule up or something of planned watch parties.

I’d almost forgotten Kirstie Alley was still around

I wasn’t really trying to say the opposite of a “naked” movie experience is “movie trauma,” more that when you go in “naked,” you take the bad with the good. Sometimes the movie is amazing and fun and you have a great experience, sometimes the movie is amazing but more like a punch in the gut. And I suppose sometimes it is crap, but thankfully, those are less memorable–for me at least.
I can kind of see the same thing when a movie is wildly different than you were expecting. Sometimes you’ll be surprised and pleased, sometimes you’ll be surprised and unhappy.
All just my take of course.
I went to see Mother! like this. No idea what it would be about. Having seen trailers since then, however, I’m not sure anything could have prepared me for what I was about to see.
The end of Mother! was some Children of Men on steroids shit. Had no idea it was going there, it was unnerving as hell but awesome.
Is anyone here familiar with the film Demon Seed?
This film is spoiled for me and I haven’t actually watched it but I need to. Big fan of 70’s sci-fi horror deep gems.
I have no trouble with a lot of that stuff
A3. Main storyline/subject matter
The main storyline(s), theme or narrative of the film is centered on an underrepresented group(s).
• Women
• Racial or ethnic group
• LGBTQ+
• People with cognitive or physical disabilities, or who are deaf or hard of hearing
But what? To be eligible for best picture it must do that. I guess that is what typically wins best picture anyway…
Alright, let’s do it, what is the most recent best picture winner that doesn’t meet these criteria?
Argo (fuck yourself) 2013? Birdman?
This stuck with me as being pretty good indie sci-fi with a fresh premise.
So I’m checking the wiki page now and this movie… it was based on a book written by P. D. James? That P. D. James? The second greatest British murder mystery author of all time had a side hustle writing science fiction? Lord Jesus, I need to read this book right away.
