Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 1)

Cruise has too much of an Elvis period with stuff like Top Gun, Cocktail and Days of Thunder imo. Surprised Clooney isn’t getting more love tbh.

Of the following, whose CAREER would you choose? List is in alphabetical order.

  • Nicole Kidman
  • Julia Roberts
  • Meryl Streep
  • Charlize Theron
  • Oprah Winfrey

Watched a third of jon stewards irresistible, got bored, turned it off, weird weird choice of movie to make in 2019. Be better.

Went from hosting a show about cheating midget strippers to a net worth of three billion. She’s an inspiration.

Watched it tonight with the family. Amazing. Relative to the live show we saw in Chicago:

  • I didn’t appreciate how immersed we were at the stage show. Point Chicago.
  • The actors weren’t unambiguously better in the original cast version, which speaks to the high quality of the Chicago cast. Ratings hot takes:
  • Chicago’s Hamilton, Miguel Cervantes, was better in a landslide. He subsequently went on to play the role on Broadway.
  • New York’s Angelica Schuyler was amazing and totally lived up to my very high expectations.
  • New York’s Eliza was fantastic, as well.
  • Anthony Ramos as New York’s John Laurens/Philip Hamilton was maybe my favorite surprise watching the movie. I thought he was excellent.
  • Daveed Diggs was, as expected, great. But I really didn’t like either version of Lafayette.
  • I thought Chicago’s Washington and Burr were mildly better, but that’s not a slight on anyone. My wife thought that New York’s Burr (Odom) had a weird face.
  • Possibly the hottest take: I thought the Chicago actor playing King George was better than Jonathan Groff.

Can’t wait to watch it again. Also can’t wait to re-read this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1455539740

Random question - There was a big story about how Disney was going to cut 2 of the 3 "Fuck"s from the show. 2 of them are very prominent: one in Hercules Mulligan needs no introduciton and 1 in the “Southern Motherfucking Democrat Republicans”. But both of those were blurred, I think. Did anyone catch the remaining one?

This was tough. Meryl Streep might objectively take the crown, but Charlize Theron is a goddess. I watched one of her early roles last night and it’s amazing how good she has always been.

this is why I was so stoked for the In The Heights movie that got pushed back to next summer. Ramos plays the lead and I’m sure he’ll be excellent. I’m disappointed it got pushed back, but in the end, it probably will help that film’s box office now that more people are able to see Hamilton and understand how good LMM’s stuff is.

My hot take: In The Heights is a better musical than Hamilton

Bro, I love Charlize Theron, but Meryl Streep was getting Oscar nominations before I was even born.

Does Tom Cruise’s career happen without being in Scientology? If not I wouldnt want his career.

Was debating going a couple years ago. Just watched it. Supremely upset we didn’t go.

For the Disney+ watchers like myself listen through the end and you get a Busta Rhymes verse. Damn this was so awesome. I’ll live blog it again with y’all.

Let’s set a day and time. Next weekend? I’ve never seen it. Sounds like it’s one to rewatch even if you have.

I looked at this for about a half second and thought it was really just a poll of great actresses and so when I saw Meryl Streep, I just snap picked her.

Then I saw Oprah on the list and realized that it would be a huge upgrade in net worth. So I switched to her.

Hamilton lives up to its seemingly impossible hype. In for a watch party for a second time.

RIP Ennio Morricone, absolute legend

Hard to come up with a more over due Oscar than him finally winning best score for Hateful Eight, just a mere 49 years after The Good The Bad and The Ugly
