Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 1)

I mean, I canā€™t imagine traveling to some weird, clearly invite-only party at a gigantic mansion where everyone is wearing masks. Of course theyā€™re going to know youā€™re not supposed to be there. Thereā€™s also the fact that cruises character doesnā€™t realize heā€™s completely unimportant and expendable to the wealthy guy until near the end as well. Like heā€™s supposed to be a really stupid guy, whoā€™s also a doctor.

Game Night

Way better than it should be. It seemed like a B tier comedy movie, but the jokes were great and a bonus Jesse Plemons kills it and heā€™s not even one of the main cast members.

Saw it with my gf because every comedian on Twitter plugged it despite it having very little actual advertisement and was so pleasantly surprised.

Would really like to be able to see Tenet in a theater. Looks fantastic.

Great movie. This is 100% worth a second viewing for all of the new stuff youā€™ll catch now that you know what to pay attention to.

Co written by this John Francis Daley, who youā€™ll recognize from Freaks & Geeks.

He and his writing partner also made Spider-Man: Homecoming, and for a time were making the DCEU The Flash movie thatā€™s been playing musical director chairs for years now.

Rachel McAdams in Game Night is my movie crush

It turns out Tarantino did uncredited rewrites on this. That scene where Nic Cage has to stab himself in the heart with adrenaline makes so much more sense.

I love The Rock personally

Speaking of Tom Cruise being a an action star

American Made

Hang over movie. Tom Cruise tries to pull of being a charismatic redneck, but it really comes across as Tom Cruise just an accent. Itā€™s hard to believe him as a down on his luck frustrated TSA pilot when he looks like a million bucks and has a megawatt smile. Heā€™s Louisiana accent is not great and his charm is really just being Tom Cruise.

Caleb Landry Jones does play the most white trash young kid who you knowā€™s going to fuck up something though.

Other than that thereā€™s a few entertaining parts, but nothing really that good.

Gone Girl

Hadnā€™t seen it and had heard of the twist so I was expecting the twist to happen at the very end, but I still hoped to be entertained. When the twist happens in the first half of the movie I thought I had accidently fast forwarded to the end. Even with the twist it was an entertaining movie. Ben Affleck does great and Rosamund Pike both do great

I donā€™t think Iā€™ve seen The Rock in any context and not been entertained. I mean, the man is just a giant hulking mass of entertainment.

I had a post about this before, but Tom Cruise is the most legitimate heir to the throne of Buster Keaton and Jackie Chan. Dude is a megamillionaire and could easily have a stuntman or CGI do these shots, but he goes balls out and straps himself to a plan taking off or does a real HALO jump just to get that perfect shot. idk if heā€™s an action junkie or itā€™s a midlife crisis thing or a Xenu thing, but the man puts everything on the line to entertain you in a Sunday afternoon action flick and I respect the hell out of that.

PS: Buster Keaton was pretty boss too.

In Fallout, you can see when he breaks his ankle jumping between buildings. In the movie heā€™s clearly limping after the stunt and they had to stop production for a bit because of the injury.

I love those MI stunts. I love Jackie Chan on a whole different level, though, and I am compelled to post his tribute to that Buster Keaton stunt from Project A part 2.

The halo jump was slightly ruined with all of the terrible CGI they added to it. Made a legitimately 100% badass thing look fake somehow. Itā€™s a similar problem with some of the Marvel movies where the CGI and camera pans add a certain quality where my brain brushes off real stunts as mere trickery.

In some ways stunts may have peaked. Unless youā€™re the CEO like Maverick nobody will sign off on your stunt. Stunt professionals already get hurt all of the time. Nobody is jumping 20 stories out of a window any more.

Also while Iā€™m ranting why the balls is there still no Oscar for stunt work!?!?!

G.I Jane

Not a bad 90ā€™s movie. I was expecting the plot to be some over the top misogyny from her squad mates that sheā€™s valiantly overcome through grit, but there was very little of it. Kind of an odd choice that they go all out and say sheā€™s doing SEAL training instead of, you know, just basic infantry training or something like Ranger training, but stakes, you got to have stakes!

I donā€™t know if I respect it, but I appreciate it :grinning:

In which GI Jane joinsā€¦the Navy lol?

A pretty good film thatā€™s marred by some stylistic choices in some scenes that were just a bit jarring. Penelope Cruz still looks amazing , of course, and sheā€™s just so charismatic and magnetic that it makes me want to watch everything sheā€™s done.

Not even really a hang over movie. The movie a germ of a good idea of a thriller, but there it wasnā€™t really elaborated on and the characters all kind of sucked.
