de Armas was completely cut from the film. She’s not in it at all.
And the court just says they can sue, not that they have or should win their case. Seems fine to me.

I don’t remember how this prior case turned out, but there is precedent.
“Drive bore very little similarity to a chase, or race action film… having very little driving in the motion picture,” the suit continues. “Drive was a motion picture that substantially contained extreme gratuitous defamatory dehumanizing racism directed against members of the Jewish faith, and thereby promoted criminal violence against members of the Jewish faith.
Deming is seeking a refund for her movie ticket, in addition to halting the production of “misleading movie trailers” in the future. The plaintiff intends to turn her individual case into a class action lawsuit, thereby allowing fellow movie-goers an opportunity to share in the settlement, reports Detroit’s WDIV-TV.
lol @ suing a movie for not living up to your expectations.
My favorite single movie scene is a difficult question, but the ballroom dance between Selina and Bruce in TDKR is way up there.
I actually do think a movie advertising an actor or actress that isn’t actually in the movie is pretty dirty pool. We all expect a certain amount of creative license in commercials and trailers, but that seems pretty cut and dried.
Sure but this isn’t a matter for courts. It’s a 10 min request for a refund.
OK this was way better than the first Knives Out.
Yeah, so… that’s not what I said. What I said was: “lol @ suing a movie for not living up to your expectations.”
Right, and I am drawing a distinction between that and the initial news item that was posted.
wat
Certainly not winning any best picture awards but Bullet Train was very enjoyable. Wacky, over the top action with a good amount of laughs. Brad Pitt kills it and some of the supporting cast and characters are great too.
“that first ones a fibonocci sequence”
“Ma!”
Thats what I thought. The overall story is dogshit but I had a lot of fun anyway
No way. I enjoyed it a lot, but the plot is much weaker than the first one. It’s a lot funnier than the first, but the laughs are to some extent covering for the fact that the core mystery isn’t really strong enough to carry the whole movie.
First half of Glass Onion was really great. Second half was ok. All of the satire got left behind and none of the character quirks mattered to the plot.
I really like both of the Knives Out movies. Right now, I give the edge to the first one, but that could change with time and after rewatching Glass Onion.
At any rate, it’s very cool to have an ongoing series doing murder mysteries in the tradition of Agatha Christie (and much better imo than Branagh’s recent adaptations of Christie’s original material).
Glass Onion never did what I thought it was going to do. Subversive at every turn. Would gladly support releasing one of these every few years. Daniel Craig has found the role to last a lifetime.
As for Knives Out:
We watched with my parents and my brother and his wife yesterday. It wasnt bad but still a struggle to stay awake. They all prefer more action. I think they would have preferred watching the first Rambo which was on TV at the same time despite having seen it several times before.
Saw Sebastian Manisalco’s new stand up at my sister’s recommendation and man did he suck.
He looked drugged on stage and had way too much makeup on. His eyes were crossed and his energy wasn’t there. Plus, his bits seems to not really have any connection to reality. To me, the best stand up is when the schtick has some basis in truth. Like Bill Burr and Doug Stanhope both seem to be basically the same person on and off stage. They both play up some elements of their personality for the stage but they don’t seem too different. Sebastian tries to play up the whole tough Italian father/guy thing but it all seems like an act. Not only that, it almost seems to be the opposite of who he probably is in real life. That lack of sincerity combined with him clearly being drugged really made the hour shitty.
Plus, anti-woke jokes in 2022 seems like it’s 5 years too late. You can tell the crowd wasn’t into them. Surprised he didn’t choose to reshoot the special on a better day. Even his final bit seemed like it ended midway through. It’s like doing a joke about pissing made him want to pee as well and he had to get it done.

Do you mean subverting genre tropes? Because that is 99% of Rian Johnson’s filmmaking style.
