Elijah Wood finally doesn’t look like Daniel Radcliffe.
But he did transition from primarily acting to producing a shit ton of amazing horror movies!!! Putting those LotR residuals to work for SpectreVision.

I was just checking out predictions for Best Picture and learned that this got nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Song.
There’s a legitimate chance that there is going to be a kick-ass performance of this at the Oscar ceremony.
Introduced my kids to Shawshank Redemption tonight (credit to my wife, actually - it’s her birthday and she wanted to watch this with them, even though we’ve both seen it a million times). Daughter doesn’t normally reveal her feelings (she’s too cool), but dlk9s jr definitely loved it, saying “it was so immersive!”
Avatar 2 was fun. It was hard to believe at times that almost everything was CG.
I was a near lock to loathe this and got dragged to it but it was so fucking good. Way better than the first one. It has genuinely good character arcs, amazing action, and of course the visuals are stunning. I literally teared up a couple times. A few of the sequences are some of the best looking cinema I’ve ever seen.
I wasn’t loathe to see it, but have no huge love for Avatar one and didn’t even re-watch it. I was sort of floored. Sure the story is very broad, but it’s a mythic style blockbuster aimed for the largest audience and on that level it was fine and I was engaged. I had to pee half way through but couldn’t bring myself to leave an miss anything. The way it looked (especially underwater) was so fluid re: 3D (which I don’t often enjoy) I was feeling moved just by looking at the movie like a Planet Earth. Anyone who likes Marvel or other blockbuster stuff and was not feeling like seeing this owes it a trip to the theater. It really shows how fucking awful those movies churned out just for constant content look.
So I guess The Fireplace, aka Adult Swim Yule Log (available on HBO max) is supposed to be subversive, Lynchian fun with Barbarian vibes.
Made by the same guy who did Too Many Cooks, but feature length, I will probable check this out today if I’m not emotionally drained by Banshees of Inisheren
This is definitely one of the most surprising reviews in this whole thread. I didn’t think there was any way Avatar 2 would be good, and especially not so good that even you would like it.

Wait is Avatar 2 like a remake of Before Sunrise or something?
Close! It’s the high-budget remake of a Tilda Swinton classic.
But to tell you the truth, I’m not TOO surprised people are saying it’s so amazing. He’s like Ridley Scott. As long as he has a good script, he makes great movies.
After writing the first “Avatar” film alone, according to IMDb, Cameron told the outlet he knew he wanted to work with a team of writers for the second movie. He said he spent six months writing the notes, developing the franchise’s fictional planet Pandora, the plot, and new characters along the way.
“I walked in on the first day with the whole writers’ room, and I plopped down 800 pages of notes, single-spaced,” Cameron said. “I said, ‘Do your homework, and then we’ll talk.’”
Once the group read the notes and reconvened, the filmmaker said he “challenged” the writers to think about what worked in the first movie, which was released in 2009. He later told them that they would fail if they couldn’t connect with the hearts and minds of viewers.
“‘Before we start talking about new stories, let’s figure out how the first story worked. What were people keying into, what was working for them?’ We had a lot of discussions about that, and every idea we came up with as we went along had to measure up against that standard,” he told ScreenRant.
Agree. I was absolutely sure I would hate it. It’s not great writing of course but it is way better than I thought and the visuals and action are outstanding. Don’t go in excepting something that is going to win best original screenplay and you will be pleasantly surprised.
For a movie like this written by him it does.
Okay, someone help me out with Banshees of Inisherin. Has near universal acclaim, and I’m just not seeing it.
I’m not saying it’s a bad film, but I’m having real trouble seeing it as a legitimate contender for 8+ Oscar nominations (which seems to be the vibe).
The few negative reviews on RT seem to feel the same way. Not enough to justify a feature length and would be better off as a short film but beautiful to look at and expertly acted.
Never seen it.
Agree with this.
Im watching it 100% for the acting, so if it hits home Im going to enjoy it
To really set the hook, the director and writer also wrote Mandy.
Low bar to clear of course. I absolutely HATED the first movie precisely because the characters and script was so awful, no amount of special effects could overcome the flaws.
You’re saying that’s less likely to happen now right?
