Isn’t the story from aliens v predators is that the aliens were engineered to be prey for the predators that got out of control.
(I think ST:Voy had a similar storyline?)

I love that movie. Might be the second best satire of all time, behind Dr. Strangelove. I still remember walking out of the theater with my roommate:
Me: “That was great!”
Him: “Huh? You liked that pile of crap?”
Me: “Whaa? You do realize it was satire, don’t you?”
Him: “Oh. Ohhhhh. Ok!”
It’s amazing how many people take it at face value. It’s a good barometer actually, anyone that likes the movie but doesn’t realize it’s satire is definitely not worth hanging out with.
I like it on both levels. It’s so over the top and the actors play it perfectly.
Should have capped off the conversation with, “Would you like to know more?”
I thought it was just that predators had captured an alien queen and used it to create predators for hunting practice - not that the predators had engineered the aliens.
I thought Prometheus established that aliens were created from the black goo interacting with other species.
lol really ? this is what the school teacher says in one of the first scenes of the movie
Here in History and Moral Philosophy we’ve explored the decline of democracy when social scientists brought the world to the brink of chaos, and how the veterans took control and imposed a stability that has lasted for generations since…
Not exactly subtle…(although I guess it isn’t that far from the current right wing mainstream, wonder if that was also true in the 90s)
(I rewatched it last month and it’s of course still great, the “mediiiiic!” at the end of that training accident scene is one of the funniest lines ever)
I admit I never saw the movie. Is it a satire of the book? Was the book supposed to be satire?
I read the book in Philosophy 101 at the Air Force Academy. It was decidedly not treated as satire. Not saying that the final take on the subject was to agree with the premise, but it was not taken as satire
The book is not satire. The movie is a subtle (if you’re not looking for it) satire of the book.
Thank you for reassuring me that I am not going insane
My understanding is it’s like one of those Watchmen kind of things where no one really knows if the author himself was in on the gag.
Pretty sure the book was entirely in earnest. The movie cranks it to eleven and rips it up.
NPH is literally wearing a Nazi SS uniform in the final scene of the movie posted above, it really isn’t that subtle (not saying it as a bad thing)
It was as subtle as Archie Bunker.
OK grandpa let’s get you to bed.
Stifle it
You know I’ve never actually seen RoboCop all the way through. I’m told it’s one of the GOAT instances of audiences totally missing the point.
What did people miss about the original Robocop? The Jesus story underneath?
And most war movies.
Thirteen Lives. 2022 on Amazon Prime.
I watched the documentary so know how this ends. Its the dramatization of the Thai cave rescue. It’s still the single most insane thing I have ever seen.
A+
