Massive explosion in Beirut

This is not Israel’s style, insomuch as they have one.

They are an awful neighbor so speculate away as far as I’m concerned but I would bet a lot against them being involved.

That blast is too large for any conventional bomb. Almost definitely an industrial chemical.

The tall structure near ground zero appears to be a grain silo, standard for commercial harbors.

Based on posters’ track records it’s definitely Israel

Al Jazeera reports that the Lebanese Security Chief says that there was a storage area nearby for confiscated explosives and explosive materials.

I won’t lie when I first saw the blast I shuddered for a second and wondered if this was it.

I agree with this.

Yea that’s one of the videos I was referencing. Although at a frame by frame viewing I think what looks like blood may actually be a red building behind the glass. Either way, just insane. The human suffering part of this sucks.

Also, when viewing frame by frame it looks like a huge volume of “air” ignites instantly. Makes it seem like a leak of some sort of gas or chemical that is then ignited by the smaller explosions as opposed to a bomb or tank explosion of some sort.

Lol at the self-righteousness.

It’s not unreasonable to assume that Isreal would start a hot war without provacation by attacking a mostly civilian target, thereby putting itself in a terrible diplomatic situation? Seems pretty fucking unreasonable to me. Say what you want about Netanyahu, but Isreal isn’t stupid.

Still, that Isreal did it will become the dominant narrative in the middle east, because people make sense of the world through conspiracies.

Blowing up that many civilians would be a pretty outrageous move, even by Israel’s standards. This just looks like an accident to me.

More like it’s not unreasonable to consider the possibility that Israel attempted to hit some kind of military target with a surgical strike and either fucked up or had bad intel on the nearby buildings, thus causing several orders of magnitude more damage and civilian loss of life than they wanted to.

Building 7 theory ruled out. It’s either a docked boat or, more likely, the adjacent building that was burning before the explosion.

There was some sort of incident on the isreali/lebanese border like a week ago. It’s nearly impossible to get good information though.

Netanyahu threatened Hezbollah with fire and fury like yesterday. You obviously don’t know this, but Hezbollah is headquartered in Lebanon.

I definitely think an accident is the most likely scenario, but lol at tut-tutting people for discussing other alternatives in 2020.

Buildings like that adjacent building are normally used to store grain. I would give 5-1 it didn’t cause the blast and that 100% of the problem was the ship.

Why the hell are you storing large quantities of explosive materials for years in a building near a dense residential area?

I’m thinking the building to the north, not the grain silos to the west.

Also possible the fire (first explosion?) was at the north end of the same building where the large explosion happened.

Has this video been posted yet? You can see several of the closer buildings just get vaporized basically. Awful.

My point is that this would not be the sort of target or strategy adopted by Isreal. See, eg, various “quiet” Iran attacks. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. And sometimes ports storing munitions blow up. See 1917 Newfoundland explosion. Halifax Explosion - Wikipedia [wrong link originally]
