Masks / Face Coverings

Just wanted to note on the mask front and people complaining about having to wear a mask all of the time.

I spent four days this past week in the hospital for a leg infection. I wore a mask almost the entire time. I had a private room but you were expected to have a mask on whenever someone came in your room. For those not familiar with hospitals you can have people coming in your room constantly with only short intervals, even through the middle of the night.

I didn’t sleep with my mask on, but I would put it on if someone came in the room and i woke up. When not sleeping I would just leave it on.

Oh yeah only other time i took it off is when they gave me a breathing treatment for my asthma. Yes, somehow with asthma i still managed to wear a mask 16-18 hours a day and not die.

I never saw anyone on staff at any level without a mask firmly in place the entire time. Some also wore face shields, some goggles. Gowns were an individual thing and they went through gloves at a much higher than normal rate. They wouldn’t touch anything without gloves and regularly changed them.

They did have a Covid floor where all Covid patients stayed but i learned staff was rotated in and out of there. They might work two shifts on Covid then two shifts on regular floor. That was probably only part that made me uneasy.

They also never tested me for Covid which I found a little odd. I didn’t really have any symptoms except for my high fever tied to my infection.

I honestly thought they would be testing everyone.

Mask inventory for the next 6 months

Respokare N95

I bought this recently from the link provided. Arrived fast. Overall though it’s probably not worth it at $8.99 per mask + $17 shipping, although with rotations (~10 days between uses), I plan to use these masks at least a dozen times each.

It does have a tighter fit than the KN95 linked below; it has the loops that go around your head instead of just to your ears. Still doesn’t seem to be as uber sealed above the nose as standard 3M N95s, but maybe I haven’t found the sweet spot yet. It does have an interesting surface to it, whether the claims made about it being more effective have any scientific validity I have no idea. So the site is not a scam as far as I can tell, having received the product and it’s as advertised.

One word of warning beyond the price, this mask is kinda small. If you have a big face, this may be a pass.

Powecom KN95

Based on recommendations itt, I have had these around for a few months now. Pretty good and not prohibitively expensive. I’ve been wearing these out to stores/appointments and feel pretty safe in them.

CandyCare disposable surgical? facemask

There’s a crapload of these types of masks on Amazon, these just happen to be the ones I got. These are for doubling up and I tend to reuse them only a few times. Quality is average at best, seems like one out of four in the pack come out with the ear loops unglued.

NoCry Over-Glasses Safety Glasses

I couldn’t quite find the moral courage to go the full goggle route, so I got these instead. They go great around my glasses, have some side protection as well, standard safety glasses I guess.

Do you think those people are paid by Soros too?

My friend asked me for a link to a reputable N95 online retailer. He’s being forced back to working in person in pharmacies and wants to buy some quality masks. What are some non scam options I can send him? Thanks!

ETA: I sent him some of the recent link from this thread, but wasn’t sure if there is updated info.

You can scroll up a few posts for my setup. I can vouch for the product I got, but it’s both expensive and not the typical 3M N95, although it meets the N95 standard* (it has a different surface and is a little small). Might be worth it to search through Amazon, I thought I saw some standard ones start to pop up the last time I checked about a month ago. Maybe pharmacy work counts as front line and your friend can get in on those products that are restricted to the public.

* I haven’t really verified that but they do have numbers on them you can probably use to determine that

Thanks, that was one of the links I sent him.

Check out online retailers like walmart. Search for brand names on the CDC list of n95s specifically, rather than just the word mask or n95 which may be banned from searches.

I’ve seen cloth masks with filter pockets, which I assume are optional. How many people use filters?

Bumping. Anybody get any good N95 masks recently? I’m about running out and need to replenish, and the ones I got last time were ok but too expensive and still not quite the gold standard of a 3M mask. Links appreciated.

I’m still buying from https://bonafidemasks.com/. Two varieties of NIOSH N95s available.

Cool, do you have a preference for one of the two N95s they offer?

Been reusing mine. I know it’s not cool but I ain’t rolling in cash. Will have to get some since it appears that schools will be opening in March despite the current situation -_-

We ordered some from ace hardware, although I haven’t worn it yet

I’ve only bought the less expensive ones. The one possibly negative thing I’ll say about them is that they’re huge - I have a larger than average head and they’re almost too big. I would imagine they would not work for people with less watermelony heads.

The batch of makrites I’ve been rocking for about a year now are still going strong. Starting to get a little worried about the elastics drying out but other than that A++.

Biden’s set up seems pretty solid though since the surgeon masks are cheaper than N95s.

Meanwhile, my school offered teachers plastic face shields with holes in them to breathe through.

And people wonder why the covid infection rate is so high here.
