Major League Baseball (Part 1)

Three pitchers were cracked with line drives today. Looks like all of them will be okay, but the time will come soon when that is not the case. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve brought the lively baseball back into play since everyone seems so in love with “exit velocity”. I don’t know. Just a feeling that they’re playing a bit of russian roulette out there with the pitchers’ safety.

Pitchers should wear helmets, full stop.

not sure if this was one of the 3 you were referencing, but here is one guy who’s out for a couple of weeks after getting hit with a comebacker off his throwing elbow

The replay looked like he took the line drive square off his back, but the ball apparently deflected off his arm first.

Agree with Sabo about them wearing hardhats.

Nope. This guy isn’t among the three from yesterday.

it’s early but this guy may be the steal of the off season.

2023 4

In game #3 the Quake shook the Rawhide 12-4. Valley Strong Ballpark does indeed now have a in-stadium leash-free area, with proper sally gates. Free parking, free dog admission. Which makes it the #1 dog friendly venue in all of sports.

At a bar after the game, the guy next to me asked what I did that evening. I said I went to the MiLB game. He said he did too, and took his kids. I said I took my dog. He said he remembered Sabo from the game in his Padres shirt.

  • #4 today: Stockton Posts (A A’s) @ Fresno Grizzlies (Rockies)

From our base in Visalia, we’re making a day trip ~40 miles north to Fresno and Chukchansi Park. This is both our first visit to Fresno (we’ve driven through Fresno a few times) -and- our first look at the Grizzlies. We will have seen all eight current Caloop teams after this game. This is another new stadium for both of us.

The D’backs organization was eliminated from the SDDC race with yesterday’s loss. Today’s game is a SDDC double elimination game.

Yesterday was the most confusing day in MLB… Jackie Robinson day. What I was curious about, was if it’s the most confusing day in MiLB too. It turns out that, while #42 is retired on all MiLB teams too, everyone wears their normal numbers this day in MiLB.

Astros crushing Gausman

The Giants are bad and should feel bad.

I think theyve blown like 4 consecutive 2 run or better leads. Its gonna be a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng year.

Webb looks like his killer season may have been a fluke. 0-4 with a 5 point ERA, and his sinker has looked like dogshit after that first game.

I love looking at stats in April and imagining all the worst kinds of records that could be broken.

This year, it’s the A’s and their ghastly pitching staff. If they go the rest of the season on the pace they’re on, they would shatter the all-time record for worst staff ERA by more than a full run. The 1930 Phillies hold that distinction with a 6.71 team ERA (only six teams since 1900 have finished the season over 6). Oakland is sitting at 7.74 after last night’s drubbing by the Cubs.

Oh, and they’re also on pace to lose 133 games, so that’s fun.

How can you not be romantic about baseball.

Reds spending money was not a headline I was expecting to see today.

wtt AL mvp Judge for Ohtani, sounds fair, k thx

Shouldn’t ohtani automatcally win mvp every year?

On the opposite side of the ledger: Minnesota’s staff has a 0.96 WHIP. Maddux only had two seasons better than that mark in his career. Glavine and Smoltz (starter) never did.

117 mph exit velo lol. Is that collective groan the sound of fans who spent a year arguing that Judge is the MoRe VaLuAbLe player realizing how well that’s gonna age.

Padres v Braves brawl from 1984.
