Major League Baseball (Part 1)

JFC did you all realize how much baseball gloves cost? What the fuck?

Yeah I just heard of this today and my first thought was it makes no sense and they should actually be cutting off sales earlier if they wanted to be consistent.

Of course it doesn’t really make much sense anyways because if you’re at a bar they don’t make you wait 30 minutes after you finished your last beer before you can leave so why the hell do I have to do it at a baseball game.

It’s not about waiting to leave. It’s about how much additional alcohol you’d consume during that time, and then driving because we live in hell.

Back in high school I splurged on a top of the line one, don’t remember the cost but it was maybe $200 or $300 in the early 2000s. Rawlings Pro Preferred with a 2 piece pocket.

It held up the rest of my playing career (10ish years) and was still in good shape when I stopped playing. You need to re-lace the pocket occasionally and do some other minor maintenance. I think I still have it but i left it in my garage for a few years and kind of ruined the leather.

Does that same glove cost $500 now and would the quality be as good?

In game #2, Sabo’s Padres whacked those Snakes 5-4, with back-2-back HRs to lead off the 9th. Sabo had a great time at the game. Next up on Saturday night 4-15…

  • Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (A Dodgers) @ Visalia Rawhide (D’backs 0-1)

This will be Sabo’s 18th overnight baseball roadtrip. His repeat destinations are Phoenix (6), Las Vegas (4), and now Visalia (2). The first time we went to Visalia, back on 2017-7-30, nobody there would believe that we did so on purpose. A couple of things have changed there since then: the stadium name was changed to Valley Strong Ballpark from Recreation Ballbark, and they’ve added an in-stadium off-leash dog park. It’s still one of the oldest (1946), the smallest (1888 seats), and surely the funkiest stadium in organized ball.

This is a SDDC elimination game for the D’back organization.

No idea on the quality I’m out of the baseball loop but like it’s $400 now. I also used other gloves during that time to save on wear and tear a bit. I had this massive 1B glove that I found in the school equipment closet that I’d use a lot during practice, shagging BP etc. It was the most ridiculous, awesome glove I’d ever come across then during college I let someone borrow it for softball and they lost it.

All this talk about gloves is reminding me of when growing up and I found out about the Baseball Express catalog. The day it showed up in the mail I’m pretty sure I flipped through that thing back-to-back-to-back at a minimum. Probably a better day than when the Eastbay catalog showed up tbh.

I guess not having drunks driving home is less important?

After doing some research, it looks like Rawlings does not produce a single glove in the USA anymore, not even the Pro Preferred / Custom Shop / Heart of the Hide lines. Those start at $400 and go up to $500. :harold:

As far as I can tell, the only USA-made gloves currently available are Glovesmith and Nokona, but you can get a completely custom USA made Glovesmith for $310. Looks like a tiny artisan operation with no endorsements or marketing budget that’s run by a former Rawlings employee.

That’s kind of what I mean about glove prices being outrageous, because popular gloves like the kind sold at Dick’s Sporting Goods are mass produced in a sweatshop at slave labor rates except they cost just as much or more in USD.

A: 27. The longest winning streak is 26 by the 1916 NY Giants (season: 4th place, 86-66-3). Baseball doesn’t count ties as breaking a winning streak. This is an example: the Giants won 12 straight, tied a game, then won 14 straight. Their longest unbeaten & untied streak that season was 17, which they had accomplished earlier. The longest ever unbeaten & untied steak is 22 by the 2017 Guardians (tka Indians; season 1st place 102-60).

Again: White Leagues only.

Gahhhhh I fucking hate Apple TV+

Pretty sure I could pitch and not walk 17 batters.

I’d probably tear up my elbow but I wouldn’t walk 17 batters that’s for sure!

On the road again
Sabo can’t wait to get on the road again
The life he loves is watching baseball with his friends
And Sabo can’t wait to get on the road again

On the road again
Goin’ places that he’s never been
Seein’ things that he may never see again
And Sabo can’t wait to get on the road again

On the road again
Like a pair of gypsies we go down the highway
We’re the best of friends
Insisting that the world keep turning our way
And our way Is

on the road again
And Sabo can’t wait to get on the road again
And now, Sabo doesn’t have to wait to get on the road again
As off we go to Visalia !

An NFL Man of the Year Award winner would never lie. FSU was robbed.

(Just re-watched it. I was surprised they called that play from 6.5 yards, I thought it was closer. Whoever #37 UVA was made an unreal play, looks like he stopped short and there’s no way replay could’ve overturned it even if it existed)

After switching streaming services to get Bally, I’ve come to learn that Annie Sabo hosts the Reds postgame show.
