alaska airlines pilots are in a bad labor negotiation, and airline has been bringing as many pilots as they can. it doesn’t sound like they are connected to hawaiian airlines, but maybe?

The problem with that explanation is
A) The Congressman has made no explanation or public statements about his absence. If he was missing time because he was pitching in during a pilot shortage, I think he’d just say that. Seems like it would be better than the reasons that people will speculate about if you say nothing.
B) If he is following the law, he can’t work very much. Congress people are capped at how much they can earn from other jobs. The cap is under $30k and in his last full year as a pilot he made over $100k. Financial disclosures aren’t out for this year so we don’t know if he’s over the cap, but the spin from his office is that he isn’t flying full time, but is taking some shifts to stay sharp and log the hours he needs to keep his license.
C) There is a possible alternative explanation for why he’s spending more time in HI and that is the rumor that he might run for Governor, so he’s focusing on trying to build up connections with the local infrastructure.
Anyway, I don’t know exactly what is going on, but I just found it interesting that we have multiple reps who aren’t even showing up for votes and it takes months to hear about it.
This district has some incredible hustle, I’m not even mad. My man is working as a US Representative as a side gig.
I mean, it’s not like Democrats are getting anything done in Congress anyway. So what’s he really missing?
On the other hand, I guess he didn’t get to sit in on the Dems Deliver and Putin Price Hike messaging meetings. So perhaps we’re being deprived of something like, “Aloha, swing votah!”
