I mean, the thread is for lol Democrats not for debating dictionary definitions. You want to talk about those that’s fine but make a new thread. There’s a long history of mods excising these types of derails; idk why you think it’s controversial.

Shame for all the republicans who didn’t want this

Kind of amazing that Shapiro is pulling off this level of approval in a purple state. Maybe a lesson for democrats. I think his focused ā€œgetting stuff doneā€ schtick is really helping him. People badly want tangible results.

It’s too bad he sucks on Gaza and apparently everyone who knows him thinks he’s a malignant asshole.

This is pretty much everyone who runs for president though, Dem or Rep.

Any Democrat who is wrong on Gaza is still way better than any Republican.

Sure, but there are levels to it. Nobody describes Bernie or Obama as an asshole. You never see articles about them losing friends, etc. They’re ambitious, sure, but not making enemies everywhere they go.

Not saying that’s a dealbreaker characteristic to have, but I think it could be an issue for him in the primary.

He’s also super strong in favor of school vouchers. The only reason he hasn’t gotten them yet is because the Ds control the state house and they stopped them. He strikes me as the type who will do the thing Obama and Biden did and ignore the crimes of the previous regime but that’s merely speculation on my part.

I fall on a similar side. If you break into someone’s house you risk getting killed. That doesn’t make breaking and entering a capital crime. It makes the response to having one’s house broken into might wind up with someone killed. All parties share responsibility in that but I am going to have more empathy for one side.

I went and searched a house today because the front door was open when they returned home. It’s for three disabled adult women and their caretaker. I wasn’t armed in any way but if someone would have shown up and been aggressive I would have done everything in my power to protect myself.

Just because I think it needs to be said, people should not break into houses.

That’s what I think is missing. Things ramp up really quickly and hit fight to the death in real life because you don’t know the intentions of an intruder. If the intruder is the least bit aggressive I feel things spiral right away. Most people aren’t willing to bet their life or their family that the intruder has good intentions.

I agree and also think there’s a side effect of having so any guns in our society. In USA it’s a good chance at least one of homeowner or intruder has a gun. So people are in fear of their life in a way they wouldn’t be in a country with much lower gun proliferation.

Paxton is going to lose votes for his hardcore weed stance. Even in Texas his stance is extreme in 2026. Would love to see him versus talarico because I am a talarico fanboy,

I would legit lol if Paxton beats Cornyn. I would also laugh if Paxton makes it to Senate, because he’s so corrupt. It would just be laughable on the institution. What is your faith level on Paxton losing this election in Texas for Senate if he wins the primary?

Hopefully they don’t cave, although I don’t know what leverage they have

These would be a tangible improvement if enacted and enforced… but think it’s foolish to think it works out like that. At least they’re starting at the right place.

They have public opinion on their side, in theory that’s all they need. In practice the Rs know they can just wait out the weak centrists and eventually win. Also in practice, it doesn’t really matter if all of these reforms pass because there’s going to be 0 enforcement of them.

I think the leverage is that ICE is really unpopular, and forcing GOP legislators to defend them will make them easier to beat

That would be their leverage if sad sack eDems like Schumer didn’t view GOP legislators as their dear friends and colleagues that they need to work with to pass Reasonable Compromise Solutions.
